19851987 Mitsubishi TM Magna SE sedan.

19871989 Mitsubishi TN Magna Executive sedan.

1991 Mitsubishi TP Magna Grand Tourer station wagon.

The 1985 TM Magna was initially available only as a sedan, an Australian developed station wagon was released in 1987 with the updated TN series, which proved popular with fleets. While the side profile was identical to the Japanese market Mitsubishi Galant of the time, the car was several centimetres wider – although still with similar styling to the overseas Galant – accommodate Australian market customer requirements. The Magna was Wheels magazine’s Car of the Year for 1985.

The 1985 Magna range included these models: GLX (fleet-special), Executive, SE and Elite. In later years, the range was expanded with the sporty Elante and Grand Tourer models as well as several limited edition models. The Magna was front-wheel drive and was fitted with a single overhead cam (SOHC) transversely mounted 2.6 L Astron II four-cylinder engine derived from its Astron predecessor fitted on the Australian-made rear wheel drive Chrysler/Mitsubishi Sigma. This new engine featured hydraulic mounts and counter-balancing shafts (technology adopted by, amongst others, Porsche, for their least expensive models) to reduce vibrations associated with such a large engine. Initially the engines carburetted 2.6 with a EFI version launched in May 1989. Fuel consumption on average for all models was 11.0 L/100 km in city driving and 7.8 L/100 km in highway driving, as measured according to the applicable Australian Standard.

The Magna was fitted with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic with overdrive (the button on the shift lever allows for 3 speed or 4 speed mode), with the luxury Elite available only in automatic. In terms of suspension, the car featured McPherson strut independent front design and at the rear a 3 link torsion beam axle with coil springs. The wagons ran a 4 link beam axle with coil springs.

On the more expensive models such as the SE and Elite variations the radio/cassette player was provided with a security system that would make the unit completely inactive if the power was disconnected therefore making the radio unusable.

As in the case of some other Australian vehicles, such as the JB Holden Camira (1983), the first range TM Magna was marred by various problems (fragile engine heads and automatic transmissions), rectified in later years. The TP wagon was alongside the new 2nd generation TR-series Magna for a period, being sold-out as the Safari limited edition model.

The first-generation Magna’s line-up included the following versions:

19911994 Mitsubishi TR Magna Elite sedan.

1994 Mitsubishi TS Magna Executive sedan.

The Magna was reengineered from the ground-up in 1991, with the introduction of a sedan and wagon version based on the Japanese Mitsubishi Diamante and Sigma hardtop. This range was larger; more strongly built and had more power than its previous version. Unlike the Japanese model on which it was based, this Magna featured B-pillars, more conventional suspension designs and fewer electronics. Nevertheless, the Australian-made TR Magna range was designed to be exported and the build quality reflected this engineering intent.

Like the first generation Magna, the TR model was initially an entirely four cylinder range. With the Australian economy still in recession at the time, there was little enthusiasm for introducing a six-cylinder vehicle. But by 1993, with the economy recovering and oil prices stable, the TR Magna was offered with a V6 engine, the same engine that had been present on the KR Verada since late 1991. The Magna and Verada shared the same body, however, Verada models (Ei and Xi) had larger bumper bars for export to the USA and luxury fittings, including electronic suspension control on the top of the range Verada Xi. From 1993, V6 engines were also made available as an option on Magna models.

All models were facelifted in March 1994 with the TS and KS facelifts of both Magna and Verada. Both engines were further upgraded and the Verada gained more export features including a different grille and headlights and extra equipment to distinguish it from the increasingly popular Magna V6.

It is claimed that most of these later Magna 2.6 and 3.0 EFI engines adapt to premium unleaded fuel for a substantial boost in power and torque.

This body shape was replaced by the all-new TE series in 1996 although TS wagon stocks continued into 1997 until the new TE wagon was ready for launch. Famously, to demonstrate that the MMAL was able to build high quality products, a wagon model was flown to Japan, planting the seed for world exports of the Australian-made Magna range. The ensuing premium export version of the V6 wagon was sold locally as the Mitsubishi TS Verada Touring Wagon in December 1995 in a limited edition of only 81 manuals and 99 automatics. In Japan it was sold in small numbers as the Diamante wagon.

Ongoing crash studies suggest that this series provided outstanding crash protection for a four-cylinder family car of its time.

19961997 Mitsubishi TE Magna Advance sedan.

19961999 Mitsubishi KE/KF Verada Ei sedan.

19961999 Mitsubishi TE/TF Magna Altera LS station wagon.

In 1996, Mitsubishi released a third-generation Magna, the TE series (codenamed YR) broadly based on the pillar-less Japanese Diamante. A 2.4L four-cylinder (codenamed 4G64-S4 and with 90% new parts to its related engine fitted on the second generation Magna) and a 3.0 L V6 were initially available, while a 3.5 L V6 was offered in the upscale Verada (many of which were exported as the Diamante to Japan, the US, and other markets). The four-cylinder Magna was dropped in March 1999, in time for the TH facelift when the 3.0-litre V6 became standard and the Verada’s 3.5 litre engine became a Magna option. The four-cylinder engine for the Magna was dropped at the end of 1998 due to slow sales and growing consumer preferences for larger more powerful engines. The Magna/Verada was again Wheels Car of the Year for 1996.

At the time, this Magna was the most aerodynamic Australian-made sedan with a 0.28 Cd factor. It featured frameless windows, a slimmer centre/B pillar and was longer and wider than the outgoing second generation TS Magna. Boot space had significantly increased, with front and rear legroom also claimed to have been increased. However, a criticism of the sweeping roofline was that headroom was reduced. Inside the vehicle was a combination of grey trim and a high waistline, resulting in some criticisms about the ‘bunker’ effect this caused.

The TE Magna range included four and six cylinder engines, with the trend towards emphasising the six-cylinder models, as petrol prices remained relatively low by Australian standards. The range initially comprised two models, the Executive and the Altera, both of which offered the choice of four and V6 engines, four-speed auto and five-speed manual. From October 1996, fully equipped Advance and Altera LS models were added. The four cylinder engine was a new 2.4 litre fuel-injected unit offering 105 kW (141 hp) and 205 Nm (151 lbft). The fuel-injected 3.0 litre V6 was also all new with 140 kW (188 hp) and 255 Nm (188 lbft), and claimed to be markedly quicker to the 100 km/h (62 mph) benchmark. As well, it claimed improved acceleration in the crucial 80-100 km/h overtaking region. The four-speed electronic automatic transmission, dubbed INVECS II, was new and could adapt to the driver’s pattern of use and road conditions to select the optimum gear for any situation. Suspension was independent front (as opposed to the more costly multi-link front setup on the Japanese Diamante) and rear along with disc brakes, and there was an option of an ABS anti-lock braking system. Braking system also included Australia’s first ‘Banksia’ parking brake, some 10 to 20% lighter and cheaper than conventional systems at the time.

The entry model for the TE range was the Executive which included features such as power steering, four-speaker sound, power mirrors, remote boot and fuel filler release, central locking and an engine immobiliser. The Altera model added standard features of air-conditioning, power windows and cruise control. Options included airbags for driver and passenger, ABS, a CD player and alloy wheels. The Advance and the Altera LS model included ABS, airbags, CD and alloy wheels as standard. On the New Zealand market all V6 models from this series onwards were badged Diamante, rather than Magna and Verada. Exports to New Zealand up until then were known as V3000 for the V6, and Magna for the 4-cylinder.

19971999 Mitsubishi TF Magna Executive sedan.

The TF Range was introduced in the first half of 1997 and consisted of five versions: Executive, Advance, Altera, Altera LS and Sports. The 2.4L four-cylinder engine was seen only in the Executive. These cars had upgraded interior trims and redesigned wheel covers and featured a speed alarm and cup holders. The Executive and Advance were identical in appearance but the Advance had a different interior trim and was fitted as standard with Airbags and ABS braking. The Altera and Altera LS introduced Power Windows and several other options such as dual airbags while colour coding was standard. There were no TF Altera manuals; manual was available in the Executive, Advance, Solara and Sports. From June to August 1998 a limited edition Solara was introduced that included all Advance features as standard, plus factory alloy wheels, colour coding and ‘Solara’ badging on the rear doors and at the bottom right-hand side of the boot.

The TF Sports was available in only 4 colours: Paris White, Flame Red, Navy (Nautilus) Blue and Dark (Frontier) Green. It carried all Executive features as standard as well as a rear spoiler, red side strip, 16 in polished alloys borrowed from the Verada range, and unique interior trims. This version had a similar V6 with the option of a 4 speed automatic transmission with ‘tiptronic’ manual mode, and improved handling characteristics thanks to: the addition of an 18 mm rear swaybar (a rear bar swaybar was not fitted to the standard Magna’s), 11% firmer rear springs, firmer upper control arm and trailing arm bushes, and suspension height lowered by 10 mm. The TF Sports options included dual airbags and ABS. TF Sports production ceased after September 1998.

Several new colours (Pearl White, Astral Blue Metallic (Blue), Lugano Green Pearl (Dark Blue-Green) and Burra (maroon/brown) Pearl) were introduced during the later production of the TF range and the final unit built was built in December 1998. The 3.5L KF Verada’s were identical to the previous KE, except with a few upgrades such as the speed alarm, etc. About 60,000 TF Magnas were built and over 5,000 KF Veradas.

19992000 Mitsubishi TH Magna Executive sedan.

2000 Mitsubishi KH Verada Ei sedan.

The TH Range was launched early in 1999 with the earliest examples built in December 1998. The cost of this upgrade (including Verada models) reached $12 million. There were some upgrades to the basic design of the car, such as a more aggressive front grille, redesigned rear, revised interior designs, complete new designs in the wheel covers and alloy wheels. The Flame Red colour was dropped and replaced with Sienna Red and Sable Black was added while all other colours were carried over from the TF range. A new Beige Metallic colour was also introduced in April 1999. The 2.4L engine was dropped and the 3.0L and 3.5L was available in the Executive and 3.5L was standard in all other models. This Magna claimed the honours of being the first Australian-made car with ABS featuring Electronic Brake-forced Distribution (EBD). One of the main new features was the eight-function trip computer and integrated anti-theft alarm system. The line up was: Executive manual and auto, Advance manual and auto, Altera LS auto and Sports manual and auto.

Mitsubishi became the first Australian manufacturer to offer a traction control system named ‘TCL’ available on its large automatic models only (e.g. Magna Sports), which was switchable. A limited edition Solara was introduced later in 1999 and another limited edition model known as the V6 Si in April 2000. Altera LS was discontinued at the end of 1999, due to its closeness to the Verada Ei model. The 1999 models lacked V6 badges but the 2000 models often featured V6 badge on the back lower right end of the boot lid. The later TH models were the 1000 Executive LS units (Auto transmission only) were built from May to June 2000, which were similar to the discontinued Altera LS but without power windows, dual airbags and somewhat not fully colour coded.

Magna Sports participated in the Australian GT Production Car Championship with various successes at the hands of MMAL’s engineer and privateer, Robert Chadwick. The vehicle featured front limited slip differential (LSD) later fitted on the TJ Magna Ralliart.

20002002 Mitsubishi KJ Verada Ei sedan

20022003 Mitsubishi KJ II Verada Ei sedan

With the release of the TJ series in July 2000, a new aggressively styled range was introduced. The car’s overall shape remained the same as the previous TE to TH range, except for a raised central section for the bonnet ending with a beak splitting the grille and featuring a new-chromed Mitsubishi badge instead of its traditional red diamonds. Magna Sports and the new VR-X model featured the same one-unit turn-light/headlights as Verada (being the first Australian produced car with parabolic headlamps). At the back, the bonnet featured a recessed centre section and new tailgate lenses with circular lights. Mitsubishi Japan conservative management rejected proposals for black diamonds on Sports and VR-X models.

The TJ range comprised Executive, Advance, Sports and a new VR-X model. Several new colours were introduced including the very bright Island Blue (Aqua) and Glacier Green (Green Aqua, also used on some previous TH models), which were discontinued after only a few months of production. In May 2001 new darker Pacific Blue colour was introduced to replace the just mentioned two colours and Flame Red was also reintroduced to the range. Grey and Beige interior options were available to any exterior colour in the Executive/Advance but Grey was clearly much more popular and was made standard when the Series II was introduced.

The new range still carried over the 3.0 L however was soon dropped in favour of an all 3.5 range, 3.0 Executives are extremely rare compared to the previous TH 3.0 Executives. The 3.5 was slightly modified giving it a power rating of 150 kW (201 hp), shortly after to 155 kW (208 hp). For the first time, a factory-fitted LPG option was available on Executive and Advance models with engines delivering the maximum power of 143 kW (192 hp) at 5000 rpm and maximum torque of 296 Nm (218 lbft) at 4000 rpm.

The new VR-X and Sports now had a better free flowing sports muffler and minor ECU mapping and cam tweaks which boosted power up to 163 kW (219 hp), resulting in a moderately sporty exhaust tone. The Sports featured full colour coding, 16×6 inch alloy wheels with standard tyres, improved suspension and swaybars, and a rear spoiler. The mechanically similar VR-X featured full colour coding, aggressively-styled full body kit with the same rear spoiler and alloy wheels as on Sports, as well as front and rear bumper extensions, wheel arch extensions, side skirts and chrome exhaust tip. At the time, the TJ Sports and VR-X models proved to be the fastest Australian-made, naturally aspirated 6 cylinder vehicles in comparison to their rivals, the AU Ford Falcon XR6 & Falcon XR8, V6-supercharged Holden Commodore S and even HSV XU6. These mechanicals were later fitted to the automatic-only Verada models, thus creating the limited edition TJ-series Verada GTV model (a standard range model later in Magna’s life). The Verada GTV was exported and sold in the USA as the Diamante VR-X.

In May 2001, Mitsubishi launched around 200 Magna VR-X Limited Edition featuring new 17×7 inch alloy wheels that became standard in the VR-X for the rest of TJ production, black brake calipers, black door handles and a Luxury Pack (featuring colour-coded part black fabric trim/Howe leather in blue or red with matching instruments fascia depending on selected exterior colours, twin-tone silver/black leather steering wheel, silver centre console, chrome gear selector plate, upgraded Verada sound system with in-dash four CD stacker and Verada trip computer) and optional sunroof (with upgraded interior lighting package). Another limited edition included the Executive-based, Magna Limited Edition (LE), which featured the following Verada fittings: full leather trim, front parabolica headlights and fog lights.

The sunroof option was later made available to all Magna models from TJ series II guise, with the 17×7 inch wheels also becoming standard VR-X models, as well as climate air control from Verada. Automatic Sports and VR-X (as well as Verada) models were now fitted with a 5-speed triptronic transmission (making Mitsubishi the first Australian manufactured to offer this instead of traditional 4-speed automatic transmission of the time). 4-speed tiptronic automatics became standard on all other Magna models in TJ series 2 guise.

In October 2001, Mitsubishi also showcased the Magna Ralliart at the Sydney Motorshow, alongside the prototype Magna Sportswagon. The latter was a Magna station wagon with Sports/VR-X mechanicals and a full body kit. The Magna Ralliart was instead a prototype engineered to show Mitsubishi’s rally prowess – with styling inspired by the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution/Lancer Evolution VI TME including bi-plane wing. In prototype form, the Magna Ralliart was said to be launched with All-Wheel Drive system and full Recaro fittings (sport seats and steering wheel), as well as upgraded stereo system.

Due to budget constraints, Mitsubishi later launched the Ralliart in front wheel drive only, with Mitsubishi’s own sport seats and steering wheel (with Recaro leather) and upgraded sound system. Mechanically, it featured 17 inch Enkei alloy wheels and suspension components, upsized brake disks, an upgraded bigger cam profiles, modifications to the head and recalibrated ECU, free-flowing extractors to produce 180 kW and was available with either a five-speed manual or five-speed tiptronic automatic. The automatics were similar to the Sports/VR-X models and therefore featuring TCL traction control, whereas on manuals, a limited slip differential (LSD) was introduced exclusive to this model. In TJ guise, Mitsubishi also launched a Sports wagon model, featuring a full body kit and sportier suspensions and similar alloys to the Sports sedan.

The TJ Magna range was the official vehicle of the international ‘Tour Down Under’ cycling event held in Adelaide, South Australia, where these vehicles and V6 engines were manufactured. In 2001, a Magna TJ Sports won class C/D of the GT-Production “Showroom Showdown” Enduro race at Bathurst, with a rear-wheel-drive Magna V8 entered in the V8 Future Touring class of the Australian Super Touring Class Championship.

In 2001, total production reached 43,492 units with exports accounting for 19,215 units. The TJ/KJ range was exported to the US, New Zealand, the Middle East and Puerto Rico – for a time, even serving as the car for the Iraqi police force.

In 2001, the Mitsubishi Magna VR-X was voted the best-value performance car on the Australian market by a News Limited panel of motoring journalists.

From that year, speculation of the Adelaide plant’s closure resulted in extensive marketing promotions by Mitsubishi Australia, such as free servicing and cash-back offers. In 2002, the export Diamante also won New Zealand’s Car of the Year award for ‘Best Large Car’.

All Wheel Drive AWD

By 2002, after a TJ Series II model, featuring only minor equipment upgrades and side impact bars as on export models, Mitsubishi introduced a range of all-wheel drive (AWD) Magna and Verada models. It was the first Australian-produced sedan to feature AWD, and used a system dubbed “Quadtec” to further show Mitsubishi’s rally heritage. The AWD model was a $7 m spin-off of the existing TJ Magna range, beating the Ford Territory and the Holden Adventra to the marketplace to claim the title of the first mass-built Australian all wheel drive car. The AWD system proved to be mechanically reliable and improved handling over the front wheel drive only version, however it failed to provide any noticeable boost for sales.

The AWD and Verada shared the 154 kW (207 hp)/310 Nm (229 lbft) engine, while the Sports had a 159 kW (213 hp)/318 Nm (235 lbft) version with a free-flowing exhaust. Those power and torque outputs were down slightly on the 2WD Magna due to the space restrictions placed on the free flowing exhaust with the extra driveline equipment required for the AWD system. The AWD range required a revised firewall to acoomodate the new hardware. Due to budget and development constraints, the TL Magna VR-X AWD was also limited to 16in instead of the front wheel drive’s 17in wheels.

Original sales projections were for 300 sales per month, but sales figures by August 2003 showed about 150 AWD Magnas were being sold each month. The AWD was available in both the Magna and Verada range in sedan form only and only with an automatic transmission, however it came with the 5-speed automatic with Tiptronic in all models. Due to budget constraints, Magna VR-X AWD featured only 16in wheels instead of the standard 17in on front wheel drive models. The AWD model was first introduced towards the end of the TJ model life, late in 2002. Fleets and rental agencies bought all initial production of the AWD model, and private sales of the TJ AWD model began in 2003.

In TL guise (see below for further details) – where the Sports model were newly badged as VR – apart from the driving and handling characteristics, there was minimal badging to differentiate the AWD cars from the 2WD models. They were significantly heavier than the 2WD cars, up to 140 kg (310 lb) depending on model and equipment levels. Official fuel consumption figures suggested they used marginally more fuel than the 2WD cars. In TL VR guise, the AWD model was used by the New South Wales police force, particularly in the Sydney region. In terms of motoring competitions, the TL Magna was entered in the Australian Cup class of the Australian Rally Championship, winning that Cup on debut in 2004.

Production of AWD models ceased in 2005, when it was discontinued with the launch of the new sedan-only Mitsubishi 380.

20032004 Mitsubishi TL Magna ES station wagon.

20032004 Mitsubishi TL Magna Solara sedan.

20032004 Mitsubishi KL Verada Ei sedan.

Mitsubishi previewed the new style Magna at the New York Motorshow in 2003, retaining its Mitsubishi Diamante badge and for expanded export to Canada. Mitsubishi Australia launched this new Magna and Verada range – now in TL and KL guise – in early July 2003. In a similar evolution to the Holden Commodore – from VX II to VY – the TL Magna had newly styled front and rear ends, a smattering of mechanical changes and revised interior.

The range no longer featured Executive, Altera or Sports models, replaced by ES, LS and VR, respectively. The only carry-over badge remained VR-X. A limited edition Solara package was re-offered with electric windows, alloy wheels and rear spoiler. Full leather trim became an option on select models (VR-X). Other limited editions included the Ralliart versions of the VR and VR-X marketed on television with the aid of Mitsubishi rally driver, Ed Ordynksi and featuring Koni suspension components, greater colour-coding and alloy wheels from the original TJ Magna Ralliart model. Engine and brakes remained standard.

The new range featured an extensive facelift styled by Frenchman and ex-Mercedes designer Olivier Boulay. Mechanically, however, the car remained the same as the TJ series. The radical front-end styling was often the first thing that most people noticed. Gone were the angular lines of the superseded model, replaced by what Mitsubishi’s new global head of design envisioned as the Mitsubishi corporate face, a style that would eventually be part of every Mitsubishi that rolls off its numerous production lines. The frontal appearance of the Magna/Verada range had a distinctive divided grille with a large chrome three diamonds symbol on the front of the car, which could also be seen on the turbocharged Evo VIII sedan and Colt (Mirage) small car. Apart from the grille area, the front guards had a swoopy appearance, with triangular headlamp assemblies; at the rear, a rounded boot lid and bumper bar was featured with similar tail lights as TJ models (except for VR-X which featured a darker lense). The new car’s design was controversial and not well received by Australian buyers. Inevitably, sales slowed dramatically.

The TL Magna benefited from a number of safety upgrades. All models met the latest Offset Deformable Barrier (ODB) and Dynamic Side Impact requirements. Front driver and passenger airbags were standard, as were side air bags contained in the sides of the front seats. While the wheelbase of the TL Magna had not changed, rear legroom was claimed to have been increased by way of reshaping the rear of the front seats, the rear seat back and cushion, as well as careful re-arrangement of the rear seat hip points and squabs. Other interior revisions included rear air vents for the first time on Magna as well as electric driver’s seat height adjustment. For the first time, a factory-fitted GPS system was also offered as an option whereas most cars gained climate control, without the previous’ range, Verada-derived display. Cost-cutting measures included the relocation of the front power window controls on the lesser range models from the door panels to the centre console.

The mechanicals and drivetrain of the Magna/Verada range for all models remained largely unchanged. The 3.5-litre single overhead camshaft, 24-valve V6 engine developed 155 kW (208 hp) of power at 5250 rpmand 316 Nm (233 lbft) of torque at 4000 rpmon Magna ES, LS, Verada Ei and Verada Xi models. Magna VR and VR-X (as well as Verada GTVi, no longer a limited edition as in TJ guise) retained their uprated 3.5 V6 engine 163 kW (219 hp) of power at 5250 rpmand 317 Nm (234 lbft) of torque at a higher 4500 rpm. Rear stabiliser bars were now fitted to all sedan models as well.

The TL Magna went on sale in early July 2003.

20042005 Mitsubishi TW Magna VR-X AWD sedan.

20042005 Mitsubishi TW Magna VR-X AWD sedan.

A minor facelift, dubbed the TW series was introduced in late 2004 and can be differentiated by ‘Series II’ badging and colour coded headlamps.

With slowing sales, an extended warranty campaign was launched in late 2004. This helped reduce the number of stockpiled vehicles, an important requirement in the lead-up to the launch of the Magna’s replacement name, the Mitsubishi 380. The changed warranty extended full manufacturer’s coverage from 3 years to 5 years or 130,000 km (whichever comes first), and gave a further 5 years or 30,000 km coverage on the driveline components to the original owner only.

This range was promoted using an advertising campaign featuring the company’s CEO Tom Phillips, who told potential customers “If you can find a better built car – buy it! This approach recycled advertising of Chrysler cars in the USA in the 1980s, when Lee Iacocca gave American car buyers the same advice. This warranty, coupled with a heavy advertising campaign and extensive discounting of the retail price, was credited with reducing the stock of eight thousand unsold 2004 TL and 2004 and 2005 TW Magna cars. The warranty was effective for all Mitsubishi vehicles sold from 1 December 2004.

While many new car buyers ignored them, TL and TW Magnas became popular in the second hand market as well engineered and reliable cars at a value price. In particular, ex-government fleet cars were popular for conversion to taxi usage in South Australia- birthplace of the Magna.

Compact Car Reviews – Honda Civic Vs. Honda Fit Vs. Mini Cooper

A lot of compact cars in the past years have been upgrading their cars and what better comfort they can give to the buyers is what brings them their boost in sale. Let me give you a few reviews on a few compact cars.

Let me start with the Honda Civic. We can say that the Honda Civic has consistently great reviews with the comfortable interior, overall long- term reliability and the ride quality, which a lot of people say that it is quite fun to drive. It also has excellent fuel economy. The Honda Civic Si Model is known to accelerate quite well. It also has a strong resale value and have good safety ratings as well.

The only thing that doesn’t fare well with the Honda Civic is that the well-equipped version is quite expensive. There is also a limited availability of some options. It’s also a firm ride; due to the fact that some find it jarring in rough roads and the road noise can be heard from the inside.

The Honda Fit on the other hand, is the most highly regarded compact car in reviews. It is quite fun to ride on just as well as the Honda Civic. The handling is quite sporty and you get excellent fuel economy as well. The interior is well designed and flexible. It also has also good crash test results.

This car though is not as affordable than most competitors. It’s also has a leisurely acceleration with automatic. Like the Honda Civic it also has a firm ride and the road and engine noise can be heard.

Another car I’d like to point in your direction is the sporty compact car, which is the Mini Cooper. If you want an attractive and retro style car then this one is for you. It is very fun to drive this car and the handling is sporty just like the Honda Fit. It has a powerful, optional turbo engine and it also has excellent resale value.

It isn’t that comfortable though. You get stiff, choppy ride when you are driving the Cooper. The interior is very tight and the rear seat is quite small, which would prove to be very uncomfortable. The cargo space is quite small as well. The dashboard control ergonomics and the options boost up the cost real fast. The Mini Cooper Clubman’s rear doors actually obstruct rear visibility as well.

Can Toyota Estima be considered for second hand purchase?

Toyota Estima, which was commonly called as Previa in England, first hit the market in 1990. The car had three generations during which it was passed through major makeovers so that it could give tough competition to other MPVs of Europe such as Volkswagen Sharan and Renault Espace. After ruling the European MPV market for about sixteen years, the car had to be called off because of Volkswagen and Ford’s aggressive prices. However, among the three versions of the Estima the last two were among the top MPVs of United Kingdom. Since the car is no further obtainable from showrooms, interested buyers shall have to resort to second hand purchase of the car. Depending upon the car’s condition, model and mileage offered by the prices may vary between £ 2000 and £ 12000. However, before you buy this MPV second hand, understand the pros and cons very well as given below.

The advantages of the family MPV Estima

•    One of the safest cars: Toyota Estima is packed with safety features required for any family MPV. It has got air bags, crumple zone, collapsing pedals and all such other safety features which make it one of the safest MPVs.

•    Full of features: The car is loaded with various features such as reclining seats with head rest; front and rear separate air conditioning option, power windows, audio system and central locking.

•    Toyota’s reliability: Whenever buying a car, the brand value and reliability of the company becomes a major point of consideration. Toyota has always been among the most reliable car manufacturers of the world. Hence, while considering Estima you would not have to worry about its quality. High brand value and great quality makes the car also reliable for second hand buying.

•    Magnificent control: In spite of being a big vehicle, Estima is quite flexible for handling and you would get the feel of driving a small car. Only few other big cars have this feature. One such big vehicle with great control is the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR.

•    Good scrap value: If you run the car for more than a hundred thousand miles your car would be taken up by buyers at a value that other cars would not be able to fetch you.

The disadvantages of Estima

•    Lesser mileage than rivals: The Toyota Estima in the UK and European market had only a 2.4 l petrol engine. This was comparatively much low than some of its rivals; to mention one is the Lancer Evolution.

•    Not so eco-friendly: This car would not help you save some of your tax burden as it emits CO2 at around 256g/km, in spite of having a petrol engine of 2.4 litres.
Though Toyota Estima could be having some disadvantages, it is not that heavy enough to undermine its advantages. So buying a used Estima could be a prudent decision.

Maruti Suzuki Swift VDi (Diesel)

Get up, Stir Up, Speed Up. Key in for ignition and satisfy you need for a car with great pickup and superb fuel economy with Maruti Suzuki Swift VDi (Diesel).

Key Features Analyzing the comfort aspect, Maruti Suzuki Swift VDi (Diesel) comes with power steering, power windows and much needed air-conditioning too. This diesel engine uses common rail multi injection fuel system, delivering a mileage of 18.2 kmpl on highways; whereas 14.7, on an average. Maruti Suzuki Swift VDi (Diesel) offers safety immobilizer, central locking and child safety locks too.

Design Maruti Suzuki Swift VDi (Diesel)is a fine 5-door sedan with a seating capacity of 5 persons. The halogen headlamps are internally adjusted. It is equipped with 14-inch steel wheels with cap. Plus, there are front as well as rear fog lamps, adding to the safety features of this car. Considering, the interiors, Maruti Suzuki Swift VDi (Diesel) is one of the well-equipped of its class – cabin light, sun visors on both sides, head restraints for both seats, 12V accessory socket, 3 assist grips, speaker provision in door, and there’s lot more to make it a perfect car. One more thing you cannot ignore is – provision of folding rear seat, which lets you travel as comfortably as you wish to.

Cons Even though, Maruti Suzuki Swift VDi (Diesel) provides you with space good enough for head and leg movement, it fails to add anti-lock braking system. Considering the power output and torque created by this car, it seems that it can manage its control with a safety brake assist. It also does not provide safety airbags and CD player.

Conclusion Looking at the good and bad of Maruti Suzuki Swift VDi (Diesel), it can be concluded that this car is worth-possessing.

Advantages that you get with used Toyota diesel engines

Engines are the main component of any automotive as it decides the performance and functionality of car. New engines make car owners feel happy and satisfied with a perfect output that suits owners’ driving needs. On the other hand, an old engine is non-performing, offers consistent problems, and makes  things tough for car owners when they are on road. When it comes to making the car go smooth and offer desired results, old engines need to be repaired or replaced with new ones. If the engine is beyond repair and budget is restricted, then buying a used engine can make a difference.

Check mentioned-below points if you are going to buy used Toyota diesel engines for sale. These points will help you know whether your purchase has any value or not. These points are like advantages that you should check that you can get after purchasing the engine. Let’s discuss them.

  • A used but reconditioned or remanufactured engine burns less fuel. It happens due to the engine’s higher temperature of combustion and greater expansion ratio. The engine also converts over 45% of the fuel energy into mechanical energy.
  • The engine doesn’t have any electrical ignition system (high voltage), and it also offers high reliability and easily adapts to the wet environment.
  • The used engine can function well for a longer time period due to the increased strength of parts used. Diesel fuel has improved lubrication features and is used for these purposes: injector lubrication, injector cooling and injection for combustion.
  • Diesel fuel is safe, does not explode and release high flammable vapors. This way diesel engines are a better option for automotive purposes.
  • The used engine is also fuel efficient as it has performance-enhancing parts that replaced old and exhausted ones.
  • The used engine can face super- or turbo-charging pressure and it gets constrained only by the strength of engine components.
  • The used engine emits minimal carbon monoxide content of the exhaust.

If you find all mentioned-above advantages in your used Toyota diesel engines, make sure you have a perfect, affordable and performing engine that is going to revive your old Toyota car and bring it back into action instantly. If you are a Toyota car owner and looking for an old engine that can perform well and help you save money from being invested in a brand new engine, then go online and find various online stores that offer you Reconditioned Toyota Avensisengines for sale. While making a purchase, give special attention on the seller’s reputation, goodwill, and status in the market as these things help you get the best used engine with the least efforts.

When you think of Australia and cars, most often you think of racing. Australia obviously has a huge presence in racing with Mark Webber in the number one position for Formula One racing in 2010. Australia is also home to the International V8 Supercar racing series with more than 250,000 spectators attending the 14 weekend races each season.

V8 Supercars are modified versions of the locally built Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore. The Falcon and Holden vehicles are not only two of the most popular cars bought by Australian consumers, they are also most commonly used for taxis and police vehicles. Their rivalry on Australian roadways overflows onto the racetracks which lends additional excitement to the V8 Supercar series, with people belonging to either the “Ford tribe’ or the “Holden tribe”.

What a lot of people may not know is that Australia has also been an established manufacturer and exporter of automobiles since the 1900s; Australia has its share of pioneers in the car industry. Colonel Harley Tarrant built the first automobile in Victoria in 1901. Australian Six was an Australian automobile manufactured locally from 1919 to 1925. Ford Australia was established in Victoria in 1925 and is the only Australian car manufacturer which designs and manufactures its own unique high-volume engine.

Toyota Australia and Chrysler Australia were established in the 1950s. Holden, originally an independent Australian automaker, became a subsidiary of General Motors in 1931 and is still producing the beloved Holden series today.

Other Australian automakers and designers include Guy Buckingham, who founded Nota in 1952, Queensland’s Barry Lock founder of Kaditcha, and Matt Thomas designer of the Joss Supercar. There have been between 40 and 50 different automobile makers and vehicle manufacturers located in Australia over the past 90 years offering a wide variety of locally produced vehicles to the Australian people.

The Top Selling Cars in Australia for 2010 include:

  • 1. Holden Commodore
  • 2. Toyota Hilux
  • 3. Mazda3
  • 4. Toyota Corolla
  • 5. Hyundai i30
  • 6. Ford Falcon
  • 7. Holden Cruze
  • 8. Mitsubishi Lancer
  • 9. Hyundai Getz
  • 10. Toyota Yaris

Australia’s history with the automobile is rich. Australian car manufacturers have recognized the importance of participating in the development of automobiles for more than 100 years and have left their own footprint on the industry with innovative contributions like the Ute, fast engines and racing cars.

Today the Australian market offers a variety of sporty and fuel-efficient vehicles to meet the needs of all consumers with a strong focus on developing more “earth friendly” and cost effective technologies. Two of Australia’s favourites, the Holden and Falcon series, have both been redesigned with new alternative fuels like LPG and E85 with future plans for electricity and fuel cell in the works.

Australian car manufacturers continue to redesign and refine vehicles to better meet the future needs of all drivers. Education is the key as you look forward to purchasing your next vehicle.

MARUTI UDYOG LIMITED – Managing competition successfully

Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) was established in Feb 1981 through an Act of Parliament, to meet the growing demand of a personal mode of transport caused by the lack of an efficient public transport system. It was established with the objectives of – modernizing the Indian automobile industry, producing fuel efficient vehicles to conserve scarce resources and producing indigenous utility cars for the growing needs of the Indian population. A license and a Joint Venture agreement were signed with the Suzuki Motor Company of Japan in Oct 1983, by which Suzuki acquired 26% of the equity and agreed to provide the latest technology as well as Japanese management practices. Suzuki was preferred for the joint venture because of its track record in manufacturing and selling small cars all over the world. There was an option in the agreement to raise Suzuki’s equity to 40%, which it exercised in 1987. Five years later, in 1992, Suzuki further increased its equity to 50% turning Maruti into a non-government organization managed on the lines of Japanese management practices.

Maruti created history by going into production in a record 13 months. Maruti is the highest volume car manufacturer in Asia, outside Japan and Korea, having produced over 5 million vehicles by May 2005. Maruti is one of the most successful automobile joint ventures, and has made profits every year since inception till 2000-01. In 2000-01, although Maruti generated operating profits on an income of Rs 92.5 billion, high depreciation on new model launches resulted in a book loss.

The Evolution

Maruti’s history of evolution can be examined in four phases: two phases during pre-liberalization period (1983-86, 1986-1992) and two phases during post-liberalization period (1992-97, 1997-2002), followed by the full privatization of Maruti in June 2003 with the launch of an initial public offering (IPO).The first phase started when Maruti rolled out its first car in December 1983. During the initial years Maruti had 883 employees, a capital of Rs. 607 mn and profit of Rs. 17 mn without any tax obligation. From such a modest start the company in just about a decade (beginning of second phase in 1992) had turned itself into an automobile giant capturing about 80% of the market share in India. Employees grew to 2000 (end of first phase 1986), 3900 (end of second phase 1992) and 5700 in 1999. The profit after tax increased from Rs 18.67 mn in 1984 to Rs. 6854.54 mn in 1998 but started declining during 1997-2001.

During the pre-liberalization period (1983-1992) a major source of Maruti‘s strength was the wholehearted willingness of the Government of India to subscribe to Suzuki’s technology and the principles and practices of Japanese management. Large number of Indian managers, supervisors and workers were regularly sent to the Suzuki plants in Japan for training. Batches of Japanese personnel came over to Maruti to train, supervise and manage.Maruti‘s style of management was essentially to follow Japanese management practices.

The Path to Success for Maruti was as follows:

(a) teamwork and recognition that each employee’s future growth and prosperity is totally dependent on the company’s growth and prosperity (b) strict work discipline for individuals and the organization (c) constant efforts to increase the productivity of labor and capital (d) steady improvements in quality and reduction in costs (e) customer orientation (f) long-term objectives and policies with the confidence to realize the goals (g) respect of law, ethics and human beings. The “path to success” translated into practices that Maruti‘s culture approximated from the Japanese management practices.

Maruti adopted the norm of wearing a uniform of the same color and quality of the fabric for all its employees thus giving an identity. All the employees ate in the same canteen. They commuted in the same buses without any discrimination in seating arrangements. Employees reported early in shifts so that there were no time loss in-between shifts. Attendance approximated around 94-95%. The plant had an open office system and practiced on-the-job training, quality circles, kaizen activities, teamwork and job- rotation. Near-total transparency was introduced in the decision making process. There were laid-down norms, principles and procedures for group decision making. These practices were unheard of in other Indian organizations but they worked well in Maruti. During the pre- liberalization period the focus was solely on production. Employees were handsomely rewarded with increasing bonus asMaruti produced more and sold more in a seller’s market commanding an almost monopoly situation.

The automobile industry has undergone significant changes since Henry Ford first introduced the assembly line technique for the mass production of cars. Production concepts, processes and the associated technologies have changed dramatically since the first cars were built. Some 70 years ago, car assembly was primarily manual work. Today, the process of car assembly is almost fully automated. In the old days, firms attached importance to the production of virtually every part in a single plant, while today, carmakers concentrate on only a few specific production stages (i.e. car assembly). Parts and module production, services and related activities have been shifted to other, specialised firms (outsourcing of production steps).Since the 1980s, it has become clear that further productivity gains to retain competitiveness can be possible only by outsourcing and securing greater flexibility. For example, firms, especially small car producers whose markets have been threatened by imports, have diversified their production programmes (e.g. by building off-road cars or convertibles) thereby introducing greater flexibility in the production process. Also, firms and their production have become more internationalized in lieu of outsourcing.

Current Scenario

The global passenger car industry has been facing the problem of excess capacity for quite some time now. For the year 2002, the global capacity in the automotive industry was 75 million units a year, against production of only 56 million units (excess capacity estimated at 25%). Efforts to shore up capacity utilization have prompted severe price competition, thus affecting margins and forcing fundamental changes in the industry. The pressure on sales and margins is driving players to emerging markets in pursuit of better growth opportunities and/or access to low-cost manufacturing bases.

• The concept of selling in the passenger car industry is changing from original sales towards lifecycle value generation, encompassing financing, repairs & maintenance, cleaning, provision of accessories, and so on.

• Vehicle manufacturers are moving into completely new materials and technologies—partly guided by environmental legislation—in striving to come up with radically different products. Some of these new technologies involve parts that can be bolted on to an existing vehicle with relatively few implications for the rest of the vehicle. Others are much more fundamental, and are likely to have a profound impact throughout the supply chain. The examples include battery, electric or hybrid power trains, and alternatives to the all-steel body. Carmakers are increasingly outsourcing component production, and focusing on product design, brand management and consumer care, in contrast to the traditional emphasis on manufacturing and engineering.

• The increasing need to attain global scales underscores the importance of platform sharing among carmakers. All original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are trying to reduce the number of vehicle platforms, but raise the number of models produced from each platform. This means producing a number of seemingly distinct models from a common platform.

• As in manufacturing, distribution in the automobile industry is undergoing significant changes, involving Internet use, retailer consolidation, and unbundling of services provided by retailers.

The Indian automobile industry developed within the broader context of import substitution during the 1950s. The distinctive feature of the automobile industry in India was that in line with the overall policy of State intervention in the economy, vehicle production was closely regulated by an industrial licensing system till the early 1980s that controlled output, models and prices. The cars were built mostly by two companies, Premier Automobiles Limited and HM. However, the Indian market got transformed after 1983 following the relaxation of the licensing policy and the entry of MUL into the car market. In 1991, car imports were insignificant, while component imports were equivalent to 20% of the domestic production, largely because of the continuing import of parts by MUL. The liberalization of the Indian automotive industry that began in the early 1990s was directed at dismantling the system of controls over investment and production, rather than at promoting foreign trade. Multinational companies were allowed to invest in the assembly sector for the first time, and car production was no longer constrained by the licensing system. However, QRs on built-up vehicles remained and foreign assemblers were obliged to meet local content requirements even as export targets were agreed with the Government to maintain foreign exchange neutrality. The new policy regime and large potential demand led to inflows of foreign direct investment (FDI) by the mid-1990s. By the end of 1997, Daewoo, Ford India, GM, DaimlerChrysler and Peugeot had started assembly operations in India. They were followed by Honda, HMIL, and Mitsubishi.

Current Scenario

Major Players

Bajaj Tempo Limited, DaimlerChrysler India Private Limited, Fiat India Automotive Private Limited, Ford India Limited, General Motors India Limited, Hindustan Motors Limited, Honda Siel Cars India Limited, Hyundai Motor India Limited, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, Maruti Udyog Limited, Skoda Auto India Limited, Tata Motors Limited, Toyota Kirloskar Motors Limited.

Current scenario in Passenger Car Category

The dominant basis of competition in the Indian passenger car industry has changed from price to price-value, especially in the passenger car segment. While the Indian market remains price sensitive, the stranglehold of Economy models has been slackening, giving way to higher-priced products that better meet customer needs. Additionally, a dominant trend in the Indian passenger car segment is the increasing fragmentation of the market into sub-segments, reflecting the increasing sophistication of the Indian consumer.  With the launch of new models from FY2000 onwards, the market for MUVs has been redefined in India, especially at the upper-end. Currently, the higher-end MUVs, commonly known as Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), occupy a niche in the urban market, having successfully shaken off the tag of commercial vehicles attached to all MUVs till recently. Domestic car manufacturers are now venturing into areas such as car financing, leasing and fleet management, and used-car reconditioning/sales, to complement their mainstay-business of selling new cars.

Critical Issues and Future Trends

The critical issue facing the Indian passenger car industry is the attainment of break-even volumes. This is related to the quantum of investments made by the players in capacity creation and the selling price of the car. The amount of investment in capacities by passenger car manufacturers in turn depends on the production

Threat from the new players: Increasing

·         Most of the major global players are present in the Indian market; few more are expected to enter.

·         Financial strength assumes importance as high are required for building capacity and maintaining adequacy of working capital.

Access to distribution network is important.

Lower tariffs in post WTO may expose Indian companies to threat of imports.

Rivalry within the industry: High

·         There is keen competition in select segments. (compact and mid size segments).

·         New multinational players may enter the market.

Market strength of suppliers: Low

A large number of automotive components suppliers.

Automotive players are rationalizing their vendor base to achieve consistency in quality.

Market strength of consumers: Increasing

·         Increased awareness among consumers has increased expectations. Thus the ability to innovate is critical.

·         Product differentiation via new features, improved performance and after-sales support is critical.

·         Increased competitive intensity has limited the pricing power of manufacturers.

Threat from substitutes: Low to medium

With consumer preferences changing, inter product substitution is taking place (Mini cars are being replaced by compact or mid sized cars).Setting up integrated manufacturing facilities may require higher capital investments than establishing assembly facilities for semi knocked down kits or complete knocked down kits. In recent years, even though the ratio of sales to capacity (an important indicator of the ability to reach break-even volumes) of the domestic car manufacturers have improved, it is still low for quite a few car manufacturers in India. India is also likely to increasingly serve as the sourcing base for global automotive companies, and automotive exports are likely to gain increasing importance over the medium term. However, the growth rates are likely to vary across segments. Although the Mini segment is expected to sustain volumes, it is likely to continue losing market share; growth in the medium term is expected to be led largely by the Compact and Mid-range segments. Additionally, in terms of engine capacity, the Indian passenger car market is moving towards cars of higher capacity. This apart, competition is likely to intensify in the SUV segment in India following the launch of new models at competitive prices.

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea and is the second largest and the fastest growing car manufacturer in India . HMIL presently markets over 25 variants of passenger cars in six segments. The Santro in the B segment, and Getz in the B+ segment.

We are mainly going to concentrate on the various marketing and positioning strategies of Hyundai Santro as against  that of Maruti Zen and Alto and Hyundai Getz as against Maruti Swift.

The old positioning of the Santro was that pf a ‘family car’, this positioning strategy was changed in around 2002 and Santro was repositioned as to that of ‘a smart car for young people.’ The target age group for the car had now shifted from 30-35 years to 25-30 years. The repositioning followed the face-lifts the car has been getting from time to time in the form of engine upgradation, new power steering, automatic transmission, etc, to keep the excitement around it alive in the highly competitive small car market. The repositioning also comes ahead of the possible launch of a new design Santro, and the super B-segment car ‘Getz’, sometime in 2003.

The Santro  was given a fresh new positioning — from a ‘complete family car’ to a‘sunshine car’ denoting a fresh new attitude and a ‘changing your life’ positioning. As the average age of a car owner has declined from around 30-35 three years ago to 25-30, primarily because of changing lifestyles, cheap and easily available finance, etc. the company thought that instead of promoting the Santro as a family car, it should be promoted as a car that can change the life of a young person since many of the buyers were young buyers.

With the launch of  Maruti Swift recently  a price war was expected to kick in . Immediately after maruti raised prices on its debutante Hyundai Motor India hit back  with a Rs 16,000-19,000 markdown on three new variants of Santro Xing.

The company has introduced the XK and XL variants at a lower tag of Rs 3,26,999 and Rs .3,45,999 respectively. The new price variants are likely to give Maruti’s existing B-segment models, Zen and WagonR a run for their money. Hyundai has also launched a new non-AC variant of the Santro at Rs 2.79 lakh, a tad higher than what the existing non-Ac Santro costs. The next offensive is due from Maruti. With the Santro’s new price positioning, Zen and particularly WagonR may be due for a correction, or at least a limited-period subvention. If that happens the domino effect will kick in across the B-segment.

Hyundai is positioning its new variants on the tech platform. Strapped with 1.1 litre engine with eRLX Active Intelligence technology, the new variants also come with new colour-coordinated interiors, a new front grill and a 4-speed AC blower that makes the air conditioning more efficient.

Established in 1945, Tata Motors is India’s largest and only fully integrated automobile company. Tata Motors began manufacturing commercial vehicles in 1954 with a 15-year collaboration agreement with Daimler Benz of Germany.

TATA INDICA – Tata motors flagship brand

The company’s passenger car range comprises the hatchback Indica, the Indigo sedan and the Marina, its station wagon variant, in petrol and diesel versions. The Tata Indica, India’s first indigenously designed and manufactured car, was launched by Tata Motors in 1999 as part of its ongoing effort towards giving India transport solutions that were designed for Indian conditions. Currently, the company’s passenger cars and multi-utility vehicles have a 16-per cent market share.

Tata has positioned Indica as `more car per car’. The new car offers more space, more style, more power and more options. Emphasizing the delivery of world class quality. They have tried to redefine the small car market as it has been understood in India.True to its “More car per car” positioning, the Indica CNG offers all the core benefits of the Indica combined with the advantage of CNG. One of the most popular advertisements on television currently, is the one where the guy portrayed as the ‘loveable liar’, gets socked everytime he lies ; but not when he speaks about the Indica thus implying- ” must be true”. Elaborating on the campaign, the new ad was launched with the intention of giving the Indica V2 brand a touch of youthfulness.

After the price war being triggered off by Hyundai being  the first company to introduce what came to be known as, pricing based on customer’s value perceptions , all others followed suit.Telco’s Indica came in the range of Rs 2.56 lakh to Rs 3.88 lakh with 4 models. The price-points in the car market were replaced by price-bands. The width of a price-band was a function of the size of the segment being targeted besides the intensity of competition. The thumb rule being ‘the higher the intensity, the wider the price-band.’

Maruti was the undisputed leader in the automobile utility-car segment sector, controlling about 84% of the market till 1998. With increasing competition from local players like Telco, Hindustan Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra and foreign players like Daewoo, PAL, Toyota, Ford, Mitsubishi, GM, the whole auto industry structure in India has changed in the last seven years and resulted in the declining profits and market share for Maruti. At the same time the Indian government permitted foreign car producers to invest in the automobile sector and hold majority stakes.

In the wake of its diminishing profits and loss of market share, Maruti initiated strategicresponses to cope with India’s liberalization process and began to redesign itself to face competition in the Indian market. Consultancy firms such as AT Kearney & McKinsey, together with an internationally reputed OD consultant, Dr. Athreya, have been consulted on modes of strategy and organization development during the redesign process. The redesign process saw Maruti complete a Rs. 4000 mn expansion project which increased the total production capacity to over 3,70,000 vehicles per annum. Maruti executed a plan to launch new models for different segments of the market. In its redesign plan, Maruti, launches a new model every year, reduce production costs by achieving 85-90% indigenization for new models, revamp marketing by increasing the dealer network from 150 to 300 and focus on bulk institutional sales, bring down number of vendors and introduce competitive bidding. Together with the redesign plan, there has been a shift in business focus of Maruti. WhenMaruti commanded the largest market share, business focus was to “sell what we produce“. The earlier focus of the whole organization was “production, production and production” but now the focus has shifted to “marketing and customer focus”. This can be observed from the changes in mission statement of the organization:

1984: “Fuel efficient vehicle with latest technology”.

1987: “Leader in domestic market and be among global players in the overseas market”.

1997: “Creating customer delight and shareholders wealth”.

Focus on customer care has become a key element for Maruti. Increasing Maruti service stations with the scope of one Maruti service station every 25 km on a highway. To increase its market share, Maruti launched new car models, concentrated on marketing and institutional sales. Institutional sales, which currently contributes to 7-8% of Maruti‘s total sales. Cost reduction and increasing operating efficiency were another redesign variable. Cost reduction is being achieved by reaching an indigenization level of 85-90 percent for all the models. This would save foreign currency and also stabilize prices that fluctuate with exchange rates. However, change in the mindset was not as fast as required by the market.Maruti planned to reduce costs, increase productivity, quality and upgrade its technology (Euro I&II, MPFI). In addition, it followed a high volume production of about 400,000 vehicles / year, which entailed a smooth relationship between the workers and the managers.

Post 1999, the market structure changed drastically. Just before this change, Maruti had wasted two crucial years (1996-1998) due to governmental interventions and negotiation with Suzuki of Japan about the break-up of the share holding pattern of the company. There was a change in leadership, Mr. Sato of Suzuki became the Chairman in June 1998, and the new Mr.J. Khatter was appointed as the new Joint MD. Khatter was a believer in consensus decision making and participative style of management. As a result of the internal turmoil and the changes in the external environment, Maruti faced a depleting market share, reducing profits, and increase in inventory levels, which it had not faced in the last 18 years.

After their fall in market share they redesigned their strategies and through their parent company Suzuki they learned a lot.The organizational learning of Maruti was moderately successful, the cost was relatively inexpensive as Maruti had its strong Japanese practices to fall back upon. With the program of organizational redesign, rationalization of cost and enhanced productivity, Maruti bounced back to competition with 50.8% market share and 40% rise in profit for the FY2002-2003.

Maruti caters to all segment and has a product offering at all price points. It has a car priced at Rs.1,87,000.00 which is the lowest offer on road. Maruti gets 70% business from repeat buyers who earlier had owned a Maruti car. Their pricing strategy is to provide an option to every customer looking for up gradation in his car. Their sole motive of having so many product offering is to be in the consideration set of every passenger car customer in India. Here is how every price point is covered.

Maruti has successfully developed different revenue streams without making huge investments in the form of MDS, N2N, Maruti Insurance and Maruti Finance. These help them in making the customer experience hassle free and helps building customer satisfaction.

Maruti Finance: In a market where more than 80% of cars are financed, Maruti has strategically entered into this and has successfully created a revenue stream for Maruti. This has been found to be a major driver in converting a Maruti car sale in certain cases. Finance is one of the major decision drivers in car purchase. Maruti has tied up with 8 finance companies to form a consortium. This consortium comprises Citicorp Maruti, Maruti Countrywide, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra, Sundaram Finance, Bank of Punjab and IndusInd Bank Ltd.( erstwhile-Ashok Leyland Finance).

Maruti Insurance : Insurance being a major concern of car owners. Maruti has brought all car insurance needs under one roof. Maruti has tied up with National Insurance Company, Bajaj Allianz, New India Assurance and Royal Sundaram to bring this service for its customers. From identifying the most suitable car coverage to virtually hassle-free claim assistance it’s your dealer who takes care of everything. Maruti Insurance is a hassle-free way for customers to have their cars repaired and claims processed at any Maruti dealer workshop in India.

True Value – Initiative to capture used car market

Another significant development is MUL’s entry into the used car market in 2001, allowing customers to bring their vehicle to a ‘Maruti True Value’ outlet and exchange it for a new car, by paying the difference. They are offered loyalty discounts in return. This helps them retain the customer. With Maruti True Value customer has a trusted name to entrust in a highly unorganized market and where cheating is rampant and the biggest concern in biggest driver of sale is trust. Maruti knows its strength in Indian market and has filled this gap of providing trust in Indian used car market. Maruti has created a system where dealers pick up used cars, recondition them, give them a fresh warranty, and sell them again. All investments for True Value are made by dealers. Maruti has build up a strong network of 172 showrooms across the nation. The used car market has a huge potential in India. The used car market in developed markets was 2-3 times as large as the new car market.

N2N: Car maintenance is a time-consuming process, especially if you own a fleet. Maruti’s N2N Fleet Management Solutions for companies, takes care of the A-Z of automobile problems. Services include end-to-end backups/solutions across the vehicle’s life: Leasing, Maintenance, Convenience services and Remarketing.

Maruti Driving School (MDS): Maruti  has established this with the goal to capture the market where there is inhibition in buying cars due to inability to drive the car. This brings that customer to Maruti showroom and Maruti ends up creating a customer.

Whenever a brand has grown old or its sales start dipping Maruti makes some facelifts in the models. Other changes have been made from time to time based on market responses or consumer feedbacks or the competitor moves. Here are the certain changes observed in different models of Maruti.

Omni has been given a major facelift in terms of interiors and exteriors two months back. A new variant called Omni Cargo, which has been positioned as a vehicle for transporting cargo and meant for small traders. It has received a very good response from market. A variant with LPG is receiving a very good response from customers who look for low cost of running.

Versa prices have been slashed and right now the lowest variant starts at 3.3 lacs. They decreased the engine power from 1600cc to 1300cc and modified it again considering consumers perception. This was a result of intensive survey done all across the nation regarding the consumer perception of Versa.

Esteem has gone through three facelifts. A new look last year has helped boost up the waning sales of Esteem.

Baleno was launched in 1999 at 7.2 lacs. In 2002 they slashed prices to 6.4 lacs. In 2003 they launched a lower variant as Baleno LXi at 5.46 lacs. This was to reduce the price and attract customers.

Wagon-R was perceived as dull boxy car when it was launched. This made it a big failure on launch. Then further modifications in engine to increase performance and a facelift in the form of sporty looking grills on the roof. Now it’s of the most successful models in Maruti stable.

Zen has been modified four times till date. They had come up with a limited period variant called Zen Classic. That was limited period offer to boost short term sales.

Maruti 800 has so far been facelifted two times. Once it came with MPFi technology and other time it came up with changes in front grill, head light, rear lights and with round curves all around.

Maruti’s customer centricity is very much exemplified by the five times consecutive wins at J D Power CSI Awards. Focus on customer satisfaction is what Maruti lives with. Maruti has successfully shed off the public- sector laid back attitude image and has inculcated the customer-friendly approach in its organization culture. The customer centric attitude is imbibed in its employees. Maruti dealers and employees are answerable to even a single customer complain. There are instances of cancellation of dealerships based on customer feedback.

Maruti has taken a number of initiatives to serve customer well. They have even changed their showroom layout so that customer has to walk minimum in the showroom and there are norms for service times and delivery of vehicles. The Dealer Sales Executive, who is the first interaction medium with the Maruti customer when the customer  walks in Maruti showroom, is trained on greeting etiquettes. Maruti has proper customer complain handling cell under the CRM department. The Maruti call center is another effort which brings Maruti closer to its customer. Their Market Research department remains on its toes to study the changing consumer behaviour and market needs.Maruti enjoys seventy percent repeat buyers which further bolsters their claim of being customer friendly. Maruti is investing a lot of money and effort in building customer loyalty programmes.

Maruti is committed to motorizing India. Maruti is right now working towards making things simple for Indian consumers to upgrade from two-wheelers to the car. Towards this end, Maruti partnerships with State Bank of India and its Associate Banks took organized finance to small towns to enable people to buy Maruti cars. Rs. 2599 scheme was one of the outcomes of this effort.

Maruti expects the compact cars, which currently constitute around 80% of the market, to be the engine of growth in the future. Robust economic growth, favorable regulatory framework, affordable finance and improvements in infrastructure favor growth of the passenger vehicles segment. The low penetration levels at 7 per thousand and rising income levels will augur well for the auto industry.

Maruti is busy fine-tuning another innovation. While researching they found that rural people had strange notions about a car – that the EMI (equated monthly instalments) would range between Rs 4,000 and Rs 5,000. That, plus another Rs 1,500-2,000 for monthly maintenance, another Rs 1,000 for fuel (would be the cost of using the car). To counter that apprehension, the company is working on a novel idea. Control over the fuel bill is in the consumer’s hands. But, maintenance need not be. Says Khattar: “What the company is doing now is saying how much you spend on fuel is in your hands anyway. As far as the maintenance cost is concerned, if you want it that way, we will charge a little extra in the EMI and offer free maintenance.”

It was a long and tough journey, but a rewarding one at the end. A reward worth Rs 2,424 crore, making it the biggest privatization in India till date. The size of Maruti’s sell- off deal is proof of its success. On the investment of Rs 66 crore it made in 1982, when Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) was formally set up, the sale represents a staggering return of 35 times The best part of the deal is the Rs 1,000 crore control premium the Government has been able to extract from Suzuki Motor Corporation for relinquishing its hold over India’s largest car company. Now looking at the strategy point of it – for Suzuki, of course, complete control of MUL means a lot. Maruti is its most profitable and the largest car company outside Japan. Suzuki will now be in the driver’s seat and will not have to mind the whims and fancies of ministers and bureaucrats. “Decisions will now become quicker. The response to changing market conditions and technological needs will be faster,” says Jagdish Khattar, managing director, MUL. After the disinvestment Suzuki became the decision maker at MUL. They flowed fund in India for the major revamp in MUL. Quoting from the report that appeared in The Economic Times, 4th April 2005, –

The Indian car giant Maruti Udyog Limited has finalized its two mega investment plans — a new car plant and an engine and transmission manufacturing plant. Both the projects will be implemented by two different companies. At its meeting the company’s board approved a total investment of Rs3,271.9 crore for these two ventures, which will be located in Haryana.

The above signifies when GOI was a major stakeholder in the MUL strategies which lead to investment have had a bureaucracy factor in it but after the disinvestment strategy followed is a TOP DOWN approach with a fast implementation.

Suzuki’s proposed two-wheeler facility in India, would start making motorcycles and scooters by the end of 2005 through a joint venture, in which Maruti has 51 per cent stake. The two-wheeler unit will have a capacity of 250,000 units a year.

The disinvestment followed by IPO gives the insight in the fact that now all the strategic decisions are taken by Maruti Suzuki Corporation. Disinvestment had helped by removing the red tape and bureaucracy factor from its strategic decision making process.

In the old days, the company’s operations could be boiled down to a simple three-box flowchart. Components came from the ‘vendors’ to the ‘factory’ where they were assembled and then sent out to the ‘dealers’. In this scheme, you know where the company’s revenues come from. The new scheme is more complicated. It revolves around the total lifetime value of a car.

Work on this began in 1999, when a MUL team, wondering about new revenue streams, traveled across the world. Says R.S. Kalsi, general manager (new business), MUL: “While car companies were moving from products to services, trying to capture more of the total lifetime value of a car, MUL was just making and selling cars.” If a buyer spends Rs 100 on a car during its entire life, one-third of that is spent on its purchase. Another third went into fuel. And the final third went into maintenance. Earlier, Maruti was getting only the first one-third of the overall stream. As the Indian market matured, customers began to change cars faster. Says Kalsi: “So the question was, if a car is going to see three users in, say, a life span of 10 years, how can I make sure that it comes back to me each time it changes hands ? So Maruti has changed gears to take a big share of this final one-third spent on maintenance. Maintenance market has a huge market potential. Even after having fifty lakh vehicles on road Maruti is only catering to approximately 20000 vehicles through its service stations everyday.

For this they are conducting free service workshops to encourage consumers to come to their service stations. Maruti has increased its authorized service stations to 1567 across 1036 cities. Every regional office is having a separate services and maintenance department which look after the growth of this revenue stream.

Maruti is the price dictator in Indian automobile industry. It’s the low cost provider of car. The lowest car on road is from Maruti stable i.e. Maruti 800. Maruti achieves this through continuous improvements in operational efficiency and productivity.

The company has set itself (and its vendors) the target of a 50% improvement in productivity and a 30% reduction in costs in three years. The ability to keep lowering the prices sets Maruti apart from other players in the league. Maruti spread the overheads over a larger base.

The impressive sales and profits were the result of major efforts within the company. Maruti also increased focus on vendor management. Maruti consolidated its vendor base. This has provided its vendors with higher volumes and higher efficiencies. Maruti does that by working with vendors, assuring them that for every drop in price, volumes will go up. Maruti is now encouraging its vendors to develop R&D capability for specialized components. Based upon such activities, product competitiveness in the market will further increase.

Maruti also made strides in applying IT to manufacturing. A new Vehicle Tracking System improved efficiency on the shop floor and enhanced quality control. The e Nagare system, adopted from Suzuki Motor Corporation, smoothened Maruti’s Just In Time operations.

The launch of Swift and phasing out Zen is a strategic move. Alto was launched keeping in mind that it will take over Maruti 800 market in future. Perhaps being the flagship product phasing out of Maruti 800 faced lots of resistance from dealers all over. Another reason behind not phasing out Maruti 800 was the fear of brand shift of customers to other competitor’s product. Swift was launched in May, 2005 in the price band starting from 4 lacs. Before launch of Swift Maruti management had decided that they will phase out Zen since it had already came up with two modifications. The major reason behind this decision was cannibalization of Wagon R and Swift due to overlapping of price band. It is a rational decision to kill a product before it starts facing the decline stage in product cycle. Maruti is offering Rs. 3000.00 more margins to dealer on the sale of Wagon-R as compared to Zen. This is to let dealer push Wagon R instead of Zen.

The new car manufacturing company, called Maruti Suzuki Automobiles India Limited, will be a joint venture between Maruti Udyog and Suzuki Motor Corporation holding a 70 per cent and 30 per cent stake respectively.  The Rs1,524.2 crore plant will have a capacity to roll out 1 lakh cars per year with a capacity to scale up to 2.5 lakh units per annum. The new car manufacturing plant will begin commercial production by the end of 2006.

Maruti would set up a diesel engine plant at Gurgaon in line with its plan to become a major player in diesel vehicles in a couple of years. This has been done in the wake of major competition from Tata Indica and meets the growing demand of diesel cars in India. While the annual growth in the diesel segment was 13 per cent in the last three years, it was 19-20 per cent in the first quarter (April-June) of the current fiscal. Maruti has currently an insignificant presence in diesel vehicle. It will manufacture new generation CRDI (common rail direct injection) engines in collaboration with Fiat-GM Opel and engines will be of 1200 cc. The plant with a capacity to produce one lakh diesel engines would be operational in 2006. At present, Peugeot of France, supplies diesel engines for Maruti’s Zen and mid-sized Esteem models. This will further reduce the imported component in Maruti vehicles, making them more competitive in the Indian market.

The engine and the transmission plant will be owned by Suzuki Powertrain India Limited in which Suzuki Motor Corporation would hold 51 per cent stake and Maruti Udyog holding the balance. The ultimate total plant capacity would be three lakh diesel engines. However, the initial production would be 1 lakh diesel engines, 20,000 petrol engines and 1.4 lakh transmission assemblies. Investment in this facility will be Rs.1,747.7 crore. The commercial production will start by the end of 2006.

Three years back as an experiment, based on the increasing design capabilities of suppliers in countries like India, McKinsey did an exercise to figure out just how much money could be saved if automobiles were to be made in overseas locations like India, Mexico and South Africa — an automobile BPO, so to speak. The result was staggering: the industry stands to gain $ 150 billion annually in cost savings, and an additional $ 170 billion annually in new revenues once demand shoots up following the drop in prices, and the combination of which means a 25 per cent increase in existing revenue levels.

According to the study, over 90 per cent of automobiles today are sold in the countries they are made in, so there’s a lot of money to be made by shifting the production overseas. Till recently, just 100,000 cars produced in low-cost countries were exported to high-cost ones — presumably this figure is going up now that Altos from Maruti, Santros from Hyundai, Indicas from Tata Motors, and Ikons from Ford, among others, are being regularly exported out of India.

Yet, as McKinsey points out, since it just costs $ 500 and just three weeks (and both figures are falling) to ship out a car to anywhere in the world, why produce cars in high-wage islands? If a car was produced in India instead of in Japan, the study says, it will cost 22-23 per cent less, after factoring in higher import duties for components/steel, lower levels of automation, and transport costs.

In August, 2003 Maruti crossed a milestone of exporting 300,000 vehicles since its first export in 1986. Europe is the largest destination of Maruti’s exports and coincidentally after the first commercial shipment of 480 units to Hungary in 1987, the 300,00 mark was crossed by the shipment of 571 units to the same country. The top ten destination of the cumulative exports have been Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Chile, U.K., Hungary, Nepal, Greece, France and Poland in that order.

The Alto, which meets the Euro-3 norms, has been very popular in Europe where a landmark 200,000 vehicle were exported till March 2003. Even in the highly developed and competitive markets of Netherlands, UK, Germany, France and Italy Maruti vehicles have made a mark. Though the main market for the Maruti vehicles is Europe, where it is selling over 70% of its exported quantity, it is exporting in over 70 countries.

Maruti has entered some unconventional markets like Angola, Benin, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Morocco, Uganda, Chile, Costa Rica and El Salvador. The Middle-East region has also opened up and is showing good potential for growth. Some markets in this region where Maruti is, are Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and UAE.

The markets outside of Europe that have large quantities, in the current year, are Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Srilanka and Bangladesh. Maruti exported more than 51,000 vehicles in 2003-04 which was 59% higher than last year. In the financial year 2003-04 Maruti exports contributed to more than 10% of total Maruti sales.

Japanese auto major Suzuki is all set to convert Maruti Udyog Ltd’s research and development (R&D) facility as its Asia hub by 2007 for the design and development of new compact cars, according to a top official of the firm. The country’s leading car manufacturer will make substantial investments to upgrade its research and development centre at Gurgaon in Haryana for executing design and development projects for Suzuki. This includes localisation, modernisation and greater use of composite technologies in upcoming models.

The company will be hiring more software engineers and technocrats to handle Suzuki’s R&D projects. Investment would be more in terms of manpower than in infrastructure, which is already in place. Apart from working on innovative features, the R&D teams will focus on latest technologies using CAD-CAM tools to roll out new models that will meet the needs of MUL’s diverse customers in the future.

The reasons as to why it can be good for R&D is that

Ø  Firstly the cost involved in R&D and infrastructure is low in India as compared to other countries. Also the technical skills are abundantly available; again at a cheaper cost.

Ø  Secondly, India is growing as an export hub along with the Indian market growing aggressively into becoming an attractive one for investors.

Ø  Thirdly, Suzuki’s investment in India, is also important as it has completely divested now as a result MUL will now become a 100% subsidiary of Suzuki in the coming year.

(1)The Quality Advantage

Maruti Suzuki owners experience fewer problems with their vehicles than any other car manufacturer in India (J.D. Power IQS Study 2004). The Alto was chosen No.1 in the premium compact car segment and the Esteem in the entry level mid – size car segment across 9 parameters.

(2)A Buying Experience Like No Other

Maruti Suzuki has a sales network of 307 state-of -the-art showrooms across 189 cities, with a workforce of over 6000 trained sales personnel to guide MUL customers in finding the right car.

(3)Quality Service Across 1036 Cities

In the J.D. Power CSI Study 2004, Maruti Suzuki scored the highest across all 7 parameters: least problems experienced with vehicle serviced, highest service quality, best in-service experience, best service delivery, best service advisor experience, most user-friendly service and best service initiation experience.

92% of Maruti Suzuki owners feel that work gets done right the first time during service. The J.D. Power CSI study 2004 also reveals that 97% of Maruti Suzuki owners would probably recommend the same make of vehicle, while 90% owners would probably repurchase the same make of vehicle.

(4)One Stop Shop

At Maruti Suzuki, customers will find all car related needs met under one roof. Whether it is easy finance, insurance, fleet management services, exchange- Maruti Suzuki is set to provide a single-window solution for all car related needs.

(5) The Low Cost Maintenance Advantage

The acquisition cost is unfortunately not the only cost customers face when buying a car. Although a car may be affordable to buy, it may not necessarily be affordable to maintain, as some of its regularly used spare parts may be priced quite steeply. Not so in the case of a Maruti Suzuki. It is in the economy segment that the affordability of spares is most competitive, and it is here where Maruti Suzuki shines.

(6)Lowest Cost of Ownership

The highest satisfaction ratings with regard to cost of ownership among all models are all Maruti Suzuki vehicles: Zen, Wagon R, Esteem, Maruti 800, Alto and Omni.

(7) Technological Advantage

It has introduced the superior 16 * 4 Hypertech engines across the entire Maruti Suzuki range. This new technology harnesses the power of a brainy 16-bit computer to a fuel-efficient 4-valve engine to create optimum engine delivery. This means every Maruti Suzuki owner gets the ideal combination of power and performance from his car.

Ø  Maruti has always been identified as a traditional carmaker producing value-for-money cars and right now the biggest hurdle Maruti is facing is to shed this image. Maruti wants to change it for a more aggressive image. Maruti Baleno has failed due to one of the major reasons being that customers could not identify Maruti with a car as sophisticated as Maruti Baleno. Maruti is looking forward to bring about a perception change about the company and its cars. Maruti started the exercise with the new-look Zen, and Suzuki’s decision to pick India as one of the first markets for this radically different-looking car gave this endeavor a new thrust. Maruti has also changed its logo at the front grill. It has replaced the traditional Maruti logo on grill ‘stylish ‘M’ with S’. The major thrust in the facelift endeavour is with the launch of 1.3 litre Swift. It’s a style statement from Maruti to Indian market.

Ø  The next threat Maruti faces is the growing competition in compact cars. Companies like Toyota, Ford, Honda and Fiat are planning to come out with small segment cars in near future.Ford is launching Focus and Fiesta, GM is launching Aveo in 2006, Chevrolet is launching Spark in 2006, Hyundai is launching its new compact car in 2006, Honda is launching Jazz in 2006, GM is has reduced prices of its Corsa, Fiat is coming up with Panda and new Fiat Palio, Skoda is launching Fabia. All this will pose a major threat to Maruti leadership in compact cars.

Ø  New emission norms like Bharat Stage 3 which has come into effect from April 2005 has increased car prices by Rs.20000 and Bharat Stage 4 which is coming into force in 2007 will contribute in increasing car prices further. This could be of concern to Maruti which is low cost provider of passenger cars.

Ø  Rise in petrol prices and growing popularity of other substitute fuels like CNG will be another threat to Maruti. There is also a threat to Suzuki from R&D investment by Toyota and Honda in Hybrid cars. Hybrid cars could run on both petrol and gaseous fuels.

Ø  There is a threat to Maruti models ageing. Maruti models like Maruti 800 which is in market for the last twenty years and others like Zen and Esteem which have also entered the decline phase are the other threats. Maruti is planning phasing out Zen in 2007 and there were rumors of phasing out Maruti 800 also. This all makes Suzuki to replace these brands with new launches . As Swift and Wagon R are replacing the Zen market. Maruti will have to keep on making modifications in its present models or its models will face extinction.

Top 5 Maruti Suzuki used cars in the market

There are other cars by Maruti Suzuki which have also sold well including the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Swift, Swift Dzire and Maruti Alto. In fact, the Alto 800 was launched as a replacement for the Maruti 800 and it has been doing very well since its launch. In 2013 alone, the car managed to sell 1.7 lakh units across the country.

There are several reasons why Indians prefer Maruti Suzuki. The cars are perfect for the nuclear family that will drive mostly on city roads and occasionally on highways. They are easy to maneuver and park in tight spots. Driving them through congested city roads and narrow by-lanes takes only minutes. Also, pricing is a big factor for Maruti cars. Most of the models sold by Maruti are available in the range of Rs 3 lakhs to Rs 5 lakhs. Therefore, they are much affordable for all. Moreover, the post sales service network of Maruti Suzuki the best in the country and getting your car repaired in case it is damaged would not turn out to be an expensive affair.

Used Maruti cars are also some of the biggest selling ones. Maruti Suzuki saw the opportunity of growth in the used car market and launched its own certified used car line the True Value in 2001. Since then, the certified used car dealership has come a long way. In 2013, the company sold 2.9 lakh vehicles which would have made True Value to fourth largest car company in India if it was a separate entity.

In the used car market, the price of used Maruti cars is quite reasonable. You can find models under Rs 1 lakh such as the Maruti 800 and Maruti Omni and models which cost up to Rs 5 lakhs such as the Swift Dzire and the SX4. The median price of a used Maruti car is around Rs 3.5 lakhs.

The top 5 Maruti Suzuki models which have been selling well in the used car market have been discussed here.

Maruti Alto 800
Launched in 2012 as a replacement for the Maruti 800, there has been no looking back for this hatchback from MSI. The car has been selling more than 1.5 lakh units every year and is the most popular car on the Indian automobile scenario. The car has a 796cc engine which is hooked up to a 5 speed manual gearbox. It is a 5 seater car and comes in petrol, CNG and LPG variety.

To buy a first hand Maruti Alto 800, you would have to spend around Rs 3.5 lakhs (on road). However, for a used Maruti Alto, spending Rs 2.5 lakhs to Rs 2.8 lakhs would be enough. Buying the Maruti Alto 800 would be of an advantage to you because the car has not been launched very long ago and hence the condition of the cars available would be as good as new.

Maruti Wagon R
The Maruti Wagon R was launched more than a decade ago and its popularity has been growing every year. The tall boy design borrowed from a Japanese car has been well-received by the Indian masses and its sales have been steady through the years. Recently, the car was given some cosmetic and internal changes. A diesel version is also slated to be launched later this year which would cost around Rs 5.5 lakhs or so.

The 998cc five seater car has a manual transmission 5 speed gearbox. The car comes in petrol, CNG and LPG varieties along with a Duo version which allows the use of both petrol and diesel.

To buy a first hand Maruti Wagon R, you would have to spend around Rs 4.5 lakhs (if you opt for the top trim car in a metallic colour). However, for used Maruti Wagon R, you would have to spend only Rs 3.5 lakhs or so. You can get a car which is less than 5 years old for this amount.

Maruti Swift
The Swift was launched in 2005 and is going stronger than ever. The different looks along with the high performance has made the car a much loved model among people. It was ranked as the second most selling car from the house of Maruti in 2014 as it had sold more than 1 lakh units. This year, the car was offered a facelift which has boosted it sales immensely.

The Maruti Swift has been priced between Rs 4.5 lakhs and Rs 6 lakhs and is available in both petrol and diesel versions. The cost of a used Maruti Swift would be around Rs 4 lakhs or so.

Maruti Swift Dzire
The Swift Dzire compact sedan was offered first in 2008 and it has been doing brisk business ever since. It came in as a replacement for the Maruti Esteem sedan and despite having some tough competition in the Honda Amaze and Hyundai Xcent, the car continues to do well in the market.

For a used Swift Dzire, you would have to pay around Rs 4.5 lakhs or so which is almost Rs 2 lakhs cheaper than the standard Swift Dzire model.

Maruti Ritz
The Maruti Ritz is a premium hatchback from the house of Maruti. Even though it is one of the lesser popular models from Maruti, it is available quite a bit in the used car market and you can buy a model which is less than 5 years old and has covered less than 30,000kms for Rs 4 lakhs or so.

The Evolution Of Tattoos: From Ancient To Present

The practice of tattooing means different things in different cultures. In early practice, decoration appears to have been the most common motive for tattooing, and that still holds true today. In some cultures, tattoos served as identification of the wearer’s rank or status in a group. For example, the early Romans tattooed slaves and criminals. Tahitian tattoos served as rites of passage, telling the history of the wearer’s life. Boys reaching manhood received one tattoo to mark the occasion, while men had another style done when they married. Sailors traveling to exotic foreign lands began to collect tattoos as souvenirs of their journeys (a dragon showed that the seaman had served on a China station), and tattoo parlors sprang up in port cities around the globe.

Kings and commoners. Sailors and prisoners. Tribesmen and sweethearts. All have shared one thing: the art of the tattoo.

Evidence from ancient Egypt, Greenland, Siberia, and New Zealand shows how truly global the tattooer’s art is — and how old. In fact, tattooing had existed for thousands of years before England’s Captain Cook encountered it in the South Pacific in 1769. Merchant and naval seamen soon spread the art to Europe and America. But while its meaning has varied from people to people and from place to place, tattooing has most often served as a sign of social status, as a mark of one’s passage through life, or simply as a way to beautify the body.

Once regarded in the West as frightening and repulsive, the tattoo has enjoyed great popularity in our own culture in recent years. Everywhere we look today — movies, advertisements, television-are signs that people of all walks of life appreciate and practice the art of the tattoo.

3 reasons why you must always opt for genuine Maruti parts

After a certain period of time, the components in your car will undergo wear and tear. At this time, you will be required to service your car and replace the worn out components with new parts. You can get these spare parts at various service centers, or even at several online markets. But it is important that you use only Maruti genuine parts in Delhi although you can get parts from other places. Why, you may ask. Here are a three reasons why you should opt for genuine parts.

Long lasting performance

All the components of the Maruti cars are made to a perfect specification to maintain the quality of the vehicle. These specifications ensure that your car only offers you a quality filled, reliable and performance making experience.  When the time comes to replace these parts, it is important that the replaced parts match the very same specifications. Only the Maruti Suzuki genuine parts in New Delhi will have these same specifications, thus ensuring that the performance of your car lasts longer. If replaced with the wrong parts, there is a high likelihood that they do not meet the engineering and material specifications of the car. This in turn, will led to irreversible damage and compromise on the car’s performance.

Save resources

No one likes to spend excessive funds on any purchase. The Maruti genuine parts in Delhi are always at a value for you money, especially if it is covered by insurance. You may find the same part at a local service center or even in an online market store for a great discount. But very rarely do these parts provide full and long lasting functionality. In other words, you may end up spending a small amount on the spare part, but you will end up burning a hole in your pocket paying for the damaged caused to your car by these very parts.

No compromise on safety

Very often cheap replacement parts may be cheap but are not up to standard of Maruti Suzuki. These parts often do not pass the original operating specifications and thus compromise on the performance of your car. In such a case, there is a high risk to members who are travelling in the car. By insisting on Maruti Suzuki genuine parts in New Delhi, you won’t compromise on your car’s performance and safety. In the long run, it will provide you with that extra peace of mind.

Always approach a genuine service center to get Maruti Suzuki genuine parts in New Delhi. While you can get any of the spare parts with easy access from a convenient source, it may not be up to standard that is required by the Maruti Suzuki car.

Toyota Fortuner vs Ford Endeavour vs Mitsubishi Pajero

Indian roads are considered to be erratic, full of bumps, therefore sturdy cars are suitable to be driven on such tracks. The most suitable vehicle to be driven on such roads is the SUVs that are mighty and rugged. SUVs in India are less in number, few of the most popular luxury SUVs in India are Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero and Ford Endeavour.

During the 11th Auto Expo held in Delhi in the month of January Toyota India launched the revamped Toyota Fortuner. The SUV has received an overwhelming response and is garnering good number of sales every month. On the exterior front new Fortuner flaunts robust and muscular looks that goes well with the overall look of the SUV. It has excellent body lines that harmonizes well with the curves of the SUV that are procured due to the bonnet scoop, front grille, tail lamps, head lamps, roof rails etc. The 17 inch alloy wheels give a sharp and more refined look to the SUV.

While, the Ford Endeavour has a close resemblance to Ford Explorer that runs on American roads. The exteriors of Endeavour include new headlamps, chrome radiator grille, silver roof rails and a lot more innovative features making the SUV more demanding. However, the Mitsubishi Pajero SUV which is quite popular amongst the Indian car buyers is one of the best designed SUVs in India. Some of the distinctive features that make a delightful treat for the customers are front and rear skid plate, chromed door and handles, chromed windshield etc. All these features render a perfect look to the SUV.

Inside the car, Fortuner comes with a high quality upholstery with impeccable fit and polish. Interiors of Fortuner have a lot of similarity with its sibling Innova MPV. On the contrary Ford Endeavour takes the cake here with impressive interiors that brag sheer luxury. Below, you’ll find some differences about these vehicles, which may help you come to a decision much easier. When I was searching for a Honda Civic or Honda Accord, I used some of these differences to weigh the pros and cons of each car, and I ultimately decided on the Honda Accord.

The Honda Accord is a four door car
The Honda Accord is much roomier than the Honda Civic. While there are four door options for the Honda Civic, it is a much smaller car and does not drive the same. The Honda Accord is highly recommended for large families, or for parents that have two or more kids. If you only have one child, you could easily get by with a Honda Civic. This is a decision that you will have to make for yourself. Do you want to sacrifice comfort and roominess with the Honda Accord, for style, with the Honda Civic?

It’s definitely a high quality car and does have some elegant features, although it is not quite as roomy and comfortable as the Honda Accord. When compared to the Honda Accord, the accord is much better suited for a family. It has elegant features that set it above and beyond the Civic.

Both cars get relatively good gas mileage
This is definitely something that you will want to take into consideration. In today’s day and age, gas prices are just seeming to go up and up. In order to save money, you have to purchase a vehicle that is economical. Both the Honda Accord and the Honda Civic are designed with gas efficiency in mind. While they are not hybrids, nor do they incorporate any of the new technologies find a lecture vehicles, they are still budget friendly when it comes to saving money on gas.

This makes Honda one of the highest quality car manufacturers and both the Honda Accord and Honda Civic are expected to be durable and long-lasting.

Because of its racing lineage and outstanding winning record in Dakar, Mitsubishi Pajero became one of the most successful SUVs. Winning Dakar Rally in its class improved sales of Pajero tremendously and established it as a rugged offroad recreational vehicle, thus making it stand out from the crowd of SUVs.

Up till now world has witnessed 4 remarkable generations of Mitsubishi Pajero, V6 engine has always dominated each generation. All generations were equipped with 4 or 5 speed manual or auto transmission to control the powerful V6 .In its first generation (1982-1991) there was only one 3.0 litre petrol V6 engine included in the line up. Focus on these powerful V6s was increased in second generation (1991-1999) as Mitsubishi included two V6s of 3.0 and 3.5 litre capacity. In third generation (1999-2006) this number was increased to 4, two new 3.5 and 3.8 litre V6s were added. In the final fourth generation (2006 onwards) only four engine capacities were offered, three of those were V6s of 3.0, 3.5 and 3.8 litre capacity.

Out of all V6 Mitsubishi Pajero engines, following were some of the most powerful engines produced by the company.

6G74 Engine (Produced from 2006 to 2008)

6G74 was a massive 3.5 litre 24 valve petrol engine. This V6 was produced only in 2006, 2007 and 2008. It was based on GDI DOHC technology with EFI.

2016 Honda Civic Sedan Patent Images Leaked

We now know how the 10th era Honda Civic will resemble, all on account of the web and the cool people who are on it.

Images were revealed at New York Auto Show

These photographs were documented by Honda to be licensed over the auto’s outline. The primary review of the 10th era Civic (idea) was uncovered by Honda at the New York International Auto Show in March 2015. It is clear from the photographs that the generation Civic Coupe is going to stick near to its idea.

Honda Civic

Honda Civic

The car is Incredible in Designs and Features

It will be based on an all-new stage, which will be all inclusive for all the variations around the world. As one could expect, the new Civic is not going to be as flashy, with respect to its body lives up to expectations, as the idea might have been. It is not going to be as forceful as the idea seemed to be. Real distinction is the outline of front and back guards; the lines and air vents are not that solid and striking. The headlights are likewise going to be more present, and less future like; less LED, more traditional HIDs. Yet, those back headlamps are doubtlessly staying in the car form. The lights produced general positive criticism from the overall population when the idea was uncovered, and we are happy they are staying put. On the other hand, those wraparound back lights are impossible in the car. In general, the car’s shape is recognizably like the “Idea B” show auto, uncovered at the Beijing Motor Show (right) a year ago. Both car and car have the same windshield and nose, and back has been cut and diced to suit their expected purposes.

It will be a Dream Car of 2016

Back spoiler is likewise no attendant in the patent photos. But it is normal that the sportier variant, similar to Si, is going to include a comparable or same spoiler. The wheels and side mirrors are obviously, likewise littler contrasted with that on the idea. Honda has not uncovered any specialized points of interest with the exception of that the new Civic will come furnished with a 1.5-liter turbo motor; however, there is additionally a probability of a 2.0-liter characteristically suctioned motor. Also, obviously, all motors will have Honda’s variable valve lift and timing.

Different Generation of Honda Accord Transmissions

The first generation Honda Accord transmissions were Hondamatic type automatic transmissions designed by Honda themselves. This in-house development route was taken because the designs used most commonly for automatic transmissions were owned by the Borg-Warner corporation and Honda was averse to paying royalty fees. Whereas the normal designs of the day used planetary gears, the Hondamatic design use parallel shafts, similar to a manual transmission. Using this design also allows for the retention of engine braking. Early Hondamatics also used a patented torque converter which used stator force rather than hydraulic controls to make automatic shifting possible.

Initial Hondamatic designs used for Honda Accord transmissions were the H2 and H3, which were 2-speed and 3-speed designs. The change from a 2-speed to a 3-speed automatic was made in 1980. The manual transmission offered for the Honda Accord was a 5-speed and it was available from the start.

The second generation Accord (1982–1985) retained the basic Hondamatic design, using two parallel shafts. In was actually in 1983 when Honda upgraded its Hondamatic transmission to a four speed. Later designs of the type H4 transmission used three shafts instead of two, thus getting a new designation, the H4A. The manual five speed transmission remained unchanged. The third generation Accord, produced until 1989, retained these transmissions even though the rest of the car underwent major design changes. The fourth generation Honda Accord transmissions also used the same Hondamatic 4-speed automatic but fully electronic in operation by this time. The change made to the 5-speed manual was in using a hydraulically operated clutch.

Beginning with this generation, all Accords equipped with automatic transmissions made use of an electronically controlled rear engine mount to dampen low frequency noise and vibration. The engine mount contained fluid-filled chambers controlled by an electronically operated valve. Below 850 rpm, fluid is routed through this valve to dampen vibration. Above 850 rpm, the valve is closed to make the engine mount stiffer.

Fifth generation (1994–1997) Honda Accord transmissions were the unchanged manual transmission and a 4-speed automatic, now upgraded to the Type B7. If featured Honda’s Grade Logic shifting program but the transmission became noted for its hard shifts. Type B7 automatic transmissions were notorious for premature failure and it was not uncommon to have transmissions break down before 100,000 kilometers. According to Honda, a bad bearing in the transmission would break apart, which clogged passageways in the transmission, causing damage. Such failures became so prevalent that class action suits compelled Honda to extend the warranties for affected vehicles.

The sixth generation (1997–2002) Honda Accords were split into three separate models, designed for the Japanese, North American, and European markets. In Japan, the Accord SiR used the S-Matic automatic transmission. Moving the gear-stick over to the right allowed manual selection of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear using an up/down shift action similar to sequential gearboxes that were used in race cars such as the Japan GT Championship Honda NSX. Otherwise, the gearbox worked like a conventional automatic transmission in other operating modes. North American Honda Accord transmissions were the 4-speed automatic M6HA and the mainstay 5-speed manual which was standard with all 4-cylinder models. The 4-speed automatic was optional on the 4-cylinder engines but standard for V6s.

Seventh generation (2003–2007) North American Honda Accord transmissions received new designs in the form of a lightweight 6-speed manual transmission borrowed from the Acura CL. The type H5 automatic transmission also made its appearance with the 7th generation Accord redesign. 2006 was the model year when the V6 sedan was offered with a 6-speed manual transmission as an option. A hybrid Accord also made an appearance in this generation and its V6 had a VCM (for Variable Cylinder Management) feature that allowed it to shut off three of the six cylinders for better fuel economy. A compact 5-speed automatic transmission was developed to allow the inclusion of a 144 hp electric motor between the transmission and the engine.

From 2008-2011 Honda Accord transmissions remained the same for the coupe and sedan, with the 2.4 liter inline 4 having a five-speed manual transmission as standard, and a five-speed automatic optional. For V6 engines, a 5-speed automatic is standard and the 6-speed manual optional. For 2011, a reworked five-speed automatic has helped the Accord attain a fuel economy rating of 23 mpg in city use and 34 mpg for the highway.

Transmission issues persisted up to 2009, and even the 5-speed automatic, first used in 2002, reportedly suffered from premature wear in the 3rd gear clutch pack. Similar to what happened with 4-speed automatics, the prematurely wearing clutch clogged internal passageways, causing erratic shifting, slipping, sudden downshifts or no shifts at all. Another problem which arose for the 5-speed was 2nd gear breakage, which would cause the transmission to lock up. Transmission rebuilders seem to have success in combating all these problems by installing additional high quality filters and using synthetic oil.

Not just the exteriors that have been well crafted, but the interiors are even better in the Mitsubishi Pajero Sports are amazingly fresh and worth a look. Just one seat in the car and you would fall in love with the plush interiors. The car has basically been designed for the people who do not wish to compromise on their drive.

Pajero Sport AT Dashboard

From the Drivers view: The cuts and edges of the car provide full visibility of the road beneath making the driver curtails all bumps which are hardly felt inside the car. The gear box is just besides the seat so the driver does not really need to make an effort for the seamless changes. Again, the controls and buttons are well defined and marked and the entire car can be operated just at a slightest touch of the finger. The dashboard comes complete with emergency saving mechanisms and the safety of the people sitting inside the car is well maintained.

From the Co-passengers view: The consoles and controls are well defined and well within the reach. Ample leg space makes the car even better. No more clingy legs and tired fatigues even if the drive has been long. Also the stereos and speakers can be easily enhanced giving you the luxury of enjoying good beats of music while you sit peacefully. Adjustable head rests make a short nap convenient without the exertion.

From the passengers View: While being seated in the front of the car is the best driving experience altogether, the passengers seated behind feel luxurious and cozy . Enough cabin space makes it easy for the passengers to change postures and fit in comfortably. The lighting is sufficient and so are the effective air conditioning systems of the car that cool the vehicle completely, including the nooks and corners. The SUV also gives enough storage space, making it just apt for long drives and travel.

While your car is a tough, sturdy mean machine from the outside, the interiors are a total contrast with soft and plush feel to it.

Here are some ways to keep the interiors as well as new

Your MitsubishiPajero is meant to be used rough, but just a little care would make the plush interiors stay refined and polished for long. Some of the best ways to care for the car would include:

  • Regular Maintenance and servicing of the car including the interiors and De-ordering the vehicle would keep it away from all unwanted smells
  • Just like a scratch on the outside should bother you, a stain on the inside should be considered too
  • Eating and drinking in the car is good, but make sure it is cleaned as well

For anything else, you should contact Shakti motors, the best and reputed dealers of theMitsubishi Pajero Sports in Navi Mumbai

Prominently-featured Japanese Used Cars in the Internet

It’s really interesting finding out about the most prominent featured Japanese used cars in online magazines, blogs, and motoring websites. It gives users a grasp on who’s who in the auto industry, and provides information on cars without requiring you to own one first. People would already have a car in mind when asked about what they think are the most popular cars from Japan, and it makes you think what exactly makes these cars so well-known. These models have become icons of Japanese automotive culture.

Bestselling: Toyota Corolla
The Corolla is reputed to sell one unit every forty seconds—well you don’t have to take this literally as this may also mean that ever since this model was launched to the market, the number of units sold from then until now surpasses any other car in history. What makes it a bestseller is its supreme reliability, so much so that it is also one of the first cars to need a sixth digit on its odometer—it just keeps on running!

Top Competitors: Honda Civic & Honda Accord
The fuel-efficient Civic came just in time to alleviate the lives of millions of auto-using Americans during the oil crisis in the Seventies. The success of the Civic paved the way for the introduction of the Accord, which was to become the first Japanese model to be assembled in US shores, and consequently become one of Honda’s bestsellers, competing with Toyota’s Camry.

Affordable Speed: Datsun 240Z
A list of the most prominently-featured Japanese used cars won’t be complete without the Datsun 240Z, known by its classier name Nissan Fairlady Z in Japan. Back when sports cars were admired from afar by enthusiasts (the Porsches and Ferraris were simply not budget-friendly), the Datsun 240Z provided a sleek and fast ride for a much affordable price.

Hybrid Pioneer: Toyota Prius
As people began to be more conscious about the environment and are encouraged to make proactive steps in conserving resources, Toyota launched the Prius in 1997, the world’s first mass-produced hybrid. The Prius was a good start in hybrid technology, and soon after its release other car manufacturers followed suit, each coming up with new hybrid and electric models, and making hybrid versions of existing models. The Prius also gets top mileage, and is very popular among Hollywood celebrities.

Unique Rotary Engine: Mazda RX-7
Motorsport fans would always cite the RX-7 as one of the most iconic sports cars from Japan. It is one of the most prominent featured Japanese used cars because of its 1146cc twin-rotor engine. Rotary engines are small and light, but are extremely powerful.

True Japanese Exotic: Acura NSX
This sports model was designed to compete with the Ferrari 328, but enthusiasts agree that it’s actually way better than the Italian model, and it was much more affordable too. It’s been called an everyday supercar, and some folks would also attest that it is probably the best sports car that has ever been built.

That’s all for now. There are plenty of other models that have become prominently-featured Japanese used cars over the years, such as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, the Nissan Skyline GT-R, and the Mazda Miata. We’ll take a look into the other models in our future articles, so keep on reading!

The evolution of printing and its importance

Printing is one of those inventions that have revolutionized our world, and though it is now done with very different methods from those used by Luther, it remains one of the fundamental practices in our society.

None of us could imagine our daily lives if printing had not been invented, but for us it is a phenomenon so obvious that we do not even notice it. From newspapers, books, the covers of magazines, of books, dictionaries, clothes, down to the different labels, printing is an art that pervades our entire day. Of course, for each of these moments are used different techniques, as well as printing equipment used are very different.

For example, serigraphy or screen printing is an artistic printing technique of images and graphics on any material or surface through the use of a fabric (fabric printing), by depositing the ink on a support through the free areas of tissue. The term “screen” comes from the Latin word “serious” (silk) and the greek “grafein” (write or draw), given that the first fabric that served as stencils were of silk. The artisanal and industrial screen printing as a technique has been adopted also in the artistic and business field since the early twentieth century. In trade it is mainly used to print images on silk fabrics, T-shirts, scarves, hats, CDs, DVDs, ceramics, glass, polypropylene, polyethylene, paper, metal and wood.

The typography is instead the technology to produce printed text using a grid of movable or inked plates. By extension, it also indicates the factory where the action is explicit, and the craft or industry related.

One technique that has been widespread in recent years is that of flexographic printing. This is a printing process that has recently experienced a remarkable development, suitable for the production of newspapers and flexible packaging film, plastic, paper and cardboard. The flow of flexographic printing is identical to that of offset printing, but the arrays are flexible and soft material (rubber and resin polymer) and can be created directly from the computer or through films.

Another method, recently came into vogue is digital printing, it is in fact a name that gathers different systems in which data is transferred directly from computer to the printing press, sheet or roll fed without the use of films or plates. The dye is in powder or liquid toner (for laser machine), ink printer (for machines inkjet), pigments (for sublimation machine).

Now some machines and techniques used in these processes are very diverse, faster, more modern and safer, but we should still never forget the importance that has had this invention, we can now see in so many aspects of our lives daily.

HKS introduces the GT II 7460R Turbo Upgrade for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV-IX

HKS USA, Inc., the premier manufacturer and supplier of premium automotive performance systems, launches the first of its proprietary design HKS GTII Series turbocharger kits, the GTII 7460R.

As the first of the new HKS turbocharger line, the GTII 7460R incorporates a reverse rotation turbine design that provides the benefit of a bolt-on application, stock replacement upgrade turbocharger for the Mitsubishi Evolution IV-IX.

The special cast turbine and compressor housings of the HKS GTII 7460R allows it to be a true bolt-on upgrade for the Mitsubishi Evolution IV-IX by utilizing the OEM exhaust manifold. The HKS GTII 7460R is also a twin scroll, reverse rotation turbocharger. This design allows for a shorter and straighter exhaust path to the turbine wheel, delivering the benefits of less restriction and increased boost response while allowing full spool and stable boost pressure throughout the RPM range. Intake and exhaust port designs optimize the flow area to allow an increase in air-flow capacity while the ball bearing center housing rotating assembly (CHRA) improves low-speed response and quicker boost pressure ramp up times Use of premium materials include inconel® for the turbine wheel because of inconel’s resistance to oxidation and its ability to maintain its structural integrity in high temperature atmospheres. Special heat resistant cast material increases the reliability and durability of the turbine housing. The GTII 7460R produced 373.4 WHP and 355.62 ft. lbs Torque with the boost set at 1.78 Bar (25.8 PSI) on 93 octane. Tested on a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX with the following parts:

• GTII 7460R Sport Turbo Kit
• R-Type Intercooler Kit (with EVO IX fitment kit)
• Step1 Mivec Camshaft Set
• Racing Muffler
• GT Extension Kit
• F-Con V-Pro
• Fuel Upgrade Kit (800cc Injectors & Fuel Pump)
• Racing Suction Reloaded Intake Kit

HKS GTII 7460R Turbos give great results !

We’re receiving various excellent reports of great performance from engine11004-am001-1-300x270.jpg

tuners around Europe who are installing the new HKS GTII 7460R Turbo on EVOs. Here is such a report

As I promised earlier, here is the dyno graph from the EVO 8 with 2,2 Litre stroker and HKS GTII 7460, just ran it in our dyno 1 hour ago, 479bhp/614Nm …

Possible to get more power and torque as we are only running 1,7 bar boost in bottom/midrange and 1,5 bar at high rpm but we will settle for this as customer wanted about 450bhp/550Nm …

This turbo is amazing when it comes to spool, we just tried for the fun of it and we made over 2 bar boost at about 2500-2600 rpm on 5th gear … Best bolt-on turbo we have tried this far …

How to install a Mitsubishi 09 Outlander DVD GPS Navi ? – Car DVD Installation Series

Now more and more people purchase car DVD players because this powerful multimedia system can bring great enjoyment to car owners. While not everyone knows how to install it. Here is some Guides from Qualir. The car below is Mitsubishi 09 Outlander.

The Mitsubishi Outlander is a crossover manufactured by Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors. It was originally known as the Mitsubishi Airtrek when it was introduced in Japan in 2001, and was based on the Mitsubishi ASX concept vehicle exhibited at the 2001 North American International Auto Show. The ASX (Active Sports Crossover) represented Mitsubishi’s approach to the industry wide XUV trend for retaining the all-season and off-road abilities offered by a high ground clearance and four-wheel drive, while still offering car-like levels of emissions, economy and size.

The original Airtrek name was chosen to “describe the vehicle’s ability to transport its passengers on adventure-packed journeys in a ‘free-as-a-bird’ manner”, and was “coined from Air and Trek to express the idea of footloose, adventure-filled motoring pleasure.” The Outlander nameplate which replaced it evoked a “feeling of journeying to distant, unexplored lands in search of adventure.”

Toyota Allion and Toyota Premio 2010 Review

If you are looking for useful information about vehicle models, articles such as this Toyota Allion and Toyota Premio 2010 review can prove to be helpful. The Allion and the Premio are twins in that their mechanical structures and components are identical, but like twins, they have different personalities. The Premio is the serious, graceful twin while the Allion is the sporty one. Premio is a Spanish word that means premium or prizeworthy; Allion is derived from the phrase “all-in-one” and reflects Toyota’s goal to integrate the benefits of all types of vehicles into the model.

Similarities and differences
At the heart of the Allion and the Premio is the same Toyota 2ZR-FE engine, among other components. The two models, launched exclusively for the Japanese market, both had two generation releases. The Premio replaced the forty-year-old Corona and the Allion stepped in to take the Carina’s place. Both models are available in 1.5, 1.8, and 2.0 engines.

Different markets
The two models, launched one after another in 2001, not only differ in aesthetics but also in their target market. The Allion, being the sporty one, appeals to the young, hip set of consumers—those in their early twenties to late thirties. These are the young urban professionals who work hard and play hard—they take the Allion to work during the weekdays and then drive it during their weekend jaunts. The Premio on the other hand is the seasoned magnate’s go-to car for business trips and meetings, the executive’s preferred company car, and the lawyer’s mobile office. In many Toyota Premio 2010 reviews, it is a common observation that the Premio’s stylish elegance exudes an air of businesslike prestige.

If you are looking for a midsize sedan with an upscale look but without the high price, the Premio is the model for you. If you want a car that looks sleek and sporty, then the Allion is your best bet. There is not much difference between the two in terms of pricing, so it’s entirely up to your preferences. While the two were launched primarily for the Japanese market, you can now easily buy pre-owned units of the Allion and the Premio from exporters in Japan. Performance-wise, owing to their similar mechanics and engines, the two cars are the same, down to horsepower and torque specs.

Technology and upgrades
The Allion and the Premio are equipped with a multi-information display monitor measuring 5.8 inches. In addition, buyers can choose from optional optitron or analogue meters, navigation systems, and audio systems. It is important to note in this Toyota Premio 2010 review that one of the upgrades done on the model is a four-wheel drive variant for the 1.8-liter engine (the 1.5- and the 2.0-liter engines are two-wheel drive). The Premio makes use of a ventilated disc braking system and coil spring-supported suspension. Both models have Super CVT-i and cruise control. A look inside the cabins shows that both share the same interior design, from the reclining rear seats, wood accents, and climate controls, up to the setup of the optional navigation and audio systems.

We hope this Toyota Allion and Toyota Premio 2010 review provided you with helpful information to make your decision-making purchase easier. Remember, the Premio is for the serious businessman and the Allion is for the sporty folk!

My experience with Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 90 Series with Manual transmission

My family bought this car in 2000. We wanted a bigger car which can accommodate more people and cargo. It has a single wiper at the back of the car. This car is a hatchback and there are extensible seats at the back of the car in the cargo area so that more people can sit inside the car. This is particularly useful to us because sometimes when we attend my grandparent’s birthday, we do need to fetch our relatives in our extended family. I do not like sitting at the back because it is bumpier than sitting at the front.

One special feature for this car is that it has an electronic navigation system such as a compass, ambient temperature sensor, and the sensor for the left-right tilt of the car. But these extras seem not to be very useful to me and I only use such extras occasionally. It did not have a CD-player. This means it can only be used to play cassette tapes and listen to radio. My father had replaced it to CD-radio combo player.

Since this car has only manual gear box, I found out that it is quite difficult to handle such a big car. The car is a four-wheel drive. This is quite useful as I can drive through rocky roads to visit my relatives in rural areas. All the four tyres are having disc brakes. This makes it easy to stop the vehicle in case of an emergency.

I feel more vibration when driving using this car especially on bumpy roads as compared to a Toyota Hilux pickup truck. This is especially obvious when you drive over a bumper on the road. I do not know if this is due to higher car trunk or less efficient suspension system for the Prado.

It is quite heavy to drive the car and finding a parking space is difficult because there are blind spots at the corners of the car. You have to be good at estimating the size of the car when you find your parking space. Therefore, it is not suitable for beginners to drive it. However, you feel more secure as you are “above” other smaller cars when you are on the road.

My family does not experience any problems with Toyota Land Cruiser after 10 years of usage and it does not wear out easily. Its purple appearance still looks as if it is new.
